    What did I do today?

Drove the '72 wagon into town to two local cruise-ins and came home and put up the rear-view mirror for the third time in a year. It keeps breaking off of the windshield. Ugh.

Yesterday after church I removed the old original 1958 car horns which didn't work. They are now replaced by two newer 1970 Lincoln Continental Hi/Lo car horns which give the car a very nice sound. Been almost 4 years that I have not had a horn with which to beep-beep when I saw someone I knew or voice my displeasure of being cut off in traffic.
Guess the only thing left is to put in the new speedo cable.

Drive it every day and the joy has not wavered.

60Burban's 1960 Valiant V200 Suburban - Finally on the road!

FINALLY! Took the Valiant out this weekend for it's 1st shakedown run after a long hibernation/restoration. Great to have her back looking good and the slant 6 is running stronger than ever!

Getting my wagon ready for an all-Ford car show this coming Saturday. I'm willing to bet that it's going to be the only Country Squire there. The exterior is pretty squared away, but I do need to pull the front seats and give them and the carpet a thorough cleaning. It IS my daily driver, after all!

I took the Transmission pan off from the 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis, and the fluid was brown and dark. I replaced the filter, but this little plastic piece came off while I was working and I wonder where it goes:

I do have two manuals but haven't found it in the manuals yet, if it's there. What would you advise, or do you know where it goes?

    EDIT: I read this:

Lulz. So either the fluid and filter are 25 years old or the last guy didn't know what it was either and just put it back in the pan.

Another thread says it's part of the assembly process. So, it looks like maybe these are leftover assembly parts although they aren't useful to car owners?

Oh well. Maybe I can glue it to a stick and make a cattle prod with it or something.

    *prod prod prod*

    *cow keeps eating grass*

    :p

So, on another subject: In front of the transmission pan is the Torque Converter cover plate, right? That's what it appears to show in the book I have. If I take that off, I can then get to the torque converter drain-plug.

It's a plug they put in the dipstick tube hole when they build the transmission. When they assemble the transmission to the engine/car and install the dipstick the plug just gets pushed into the pan where it stays until the first time the fluid is changed.

The torque converter does have a small drain plug that you can access by taking that inspection plate off. You may have to turn the engine over by hand so the plug is accessible.

99% of the fords have the drain plug in the torque, rarely they do not

Fords for some strange reason I have noticed ALWAYS seem to turn the fluid brown quickly. In some cases in just a week.

Well, Check this Mercury as having a drain plug for the Torque Converter. I took the bolts off the casing which I needed a longer bar on the ratchet for since they were tight, then after that the drain plug was already on the bottom. I did need to keep the engine from turning while I removed the plug, so I put a long socket on one of the other bolts for when it ended up hitting the engine. After everything was drained and I found the torque converter drain plug screw (it fell in the drain pan) and it was all put back together, I put three quarts of ATF in. I ended up needing eight quarts after having my parents turn the car on and off a number of times, and going from gear to gear later.
