Yeah, the CB is kinda cool. All these bodys had the p-rear vent windows..... GM was tooooo cheap to install roll downs. I believe they called it a 'child safty feature'= too cheep too....;)

I can't say for certain but I'm sure this wagon was owned by a member who sold it, and never came back. I'm positive I've seen interiour pics etc when I joined but can't remember the members name. I did find pics from the Boss (Stefan) in the gallery though....

Yeah, it was a dam (y) wagon then, and it's a dam (y) now.

Wagonmasters pics from a few years back......It's got to be the sam car.

Ahhhh, the roof rack of the era....don't even strap air to it:biglaugh:....I'd know, I've got 3 GM's....never strap anything to rack, not even air. Sorry GM guys, but thats a reality!...looks, not function.

Tedy: The reason they did the rear door vent windows instead of roll downs is very simple, if you believe the magazines of the time. When they downsized the A-bodies for 78, the package dimensions left them with not enough width for a 3 place back seat using conventional arm rests/door pulls. If you notice, the arm rests are recessed into the doors, which prevented roll down windows. If you've ever tried to sit 3 in the back seat, you come to appreciate why they did it.

If I'm giving them a ride and they don't like the room..........
    [IMG]....:yup:

    :rofl2:

Drive one.... you will not appreciate the [IMG]
effect inside the car with the windows doun:rednose:

I've never read or heard anything about not enouph room being the reason, but do recall reading about it be a cost cutting measure.... same amount of room width wise up front with a bench seat, and seat belts for three. Volarie wagon.... same size, rear door windows roll down, Fox body wagons... they are smaller, rear door windows roll down.....

Cheaping out, all the big three started iliminating rear roll down windows, the 70's 2 door models are the proof and they had lots of room.

A girl I knew back in the day, her dad bout new a 198? sedan vertion of my wagon. Got a ride with him one day and I had to ask about the "can't roll down the window. I remember him telling me, "Salesman said it was a child safty feature"............

    I'll still believe,,,,cheeping out to save cost:p:rofl2:

I remember riding in the 2nd row seat of my friend's mother's early 80's Cutlass wagon. This would have been in about 1984...in Tulsa Oklahoma....the summer the a/c in the car died.

That car had tan vinyl seats. I remember because my 10-year-old legs and back sweated all over them whenever his mom drove us somewhere that summer. I flat HATED that car and remember cursing GM that the windows didn't go down. Car had NO airflow, even with the front windows down and stupid vent windows open. HOT.

Funny you mention no air flow in the back..... If I have the tailgate window closed and the dogs in the back, you can tell they get no air even with the vent windows open... you can tell because there fur is not fluffing (don't know how to word that) but in the drivers seat it's a freeken tornado.....

This trick not only got rid of the tornado, but breezes the entire car very nice when I'm not using the AC..... witch got 'warm' this summer:banghead3:

Breezeway.... we do the same trick in Deb's escape.... it works!:)

10 years old....no air, no window, vynal seats.......Been there done that, amazed to this day I don't have scars:rofl2:...... I grew up in a 70 Cougar, no AC, black vynal....... I can still feel the pain....... when the term 'summer family road trip vacation ment'..... I'm dying......... "we are here, would you like a ice cream?".....YES MOM!!, rub it on my legs, PLEASE!!:rofl2:

Guess many of us survived such ordeals. Man we were a hardy bunch. :whew:

When I was about 10 we took a family vacation from NJ to FL in July/August of '77 (I think) in our '72 Fury wagon; brown w/ black vinyl seating. Once in FL, the engine was running hot. Solution? Turn off the AC, turn on the heat. At least we could roll all the windows down. :biglaugh:
