That is a very nice wagon. Appears to be a '78 (ad says it's the last of the big ones before downsizing). Price works out to $9,650 or so US$.

Would certainly look good in my garage. Text indicates it's had good care. Owner seems knowledgeable about car's condition and not afraid about mentioning what it needs - an honest ad. Good for him.

It does look sharp, love how the colour and wood look in the setting sun. No power windows though, sure hope the A/C is working:yup:

The price though.....I'm more into the facts, has any of these big wagons ever sold for this much, or even close?

I will never understand why a high end car like this would have roll ups?? That hurts the car for me. It sure is a beauty, though, from what I can see. The price is up there and it will be interesting to see what happens at that price. As much as I like the car, I would have to pass at $9K.

SF, as I recall, power windows back then, (perhaps more in the 60's than the 70's), were quite the luxury. I remember when my Dad factory ordered his '68 LeSabre, try as I might, I just couldn't convince him to get the power windows. He felt they were just too expensive. Of course, I might add, I had the same lack of luck with air conditioning as well; that was just out of the question. I suggested perhaps he go with an LTD as he could get one of those with ac and power windows for at least the same, if not a lower price. He said no, that he was tired of driving Fords and wanted the prestige of owning a Buick, even if it had less equipment.
I'm sure he wasn't the only American car buyer who felt that way. The original owner of this CP could well have purchased a Country Squire with the power windows for less money, but then he'd be driving a Ford and not the Mercury, with all the prestige that came with it.
Just my thoughts--I could be completely wrong!!

By the way, you'll note it has the standard full wheel covers on there instead of the upgraded wire wheel covers or aluminum wheels, nor does it have the optional rear seat. I wonder what radio's in there? I wouldn't be surprised if it was just an AM, or AM/FM. I'll bet it doesn't have a factory casette or 8 track. It looks like it was a basic Colony Park, though admittedly it does have dual power seats, which is kind of out of keeping with the rather sparse options list. I'd venture to say this was an ordered vehicle per the customer's specs; I don't think a dealer would've ordered it this way for his inventory.

You could be right, snoot. Also....there were still people around up into the 80's (and beyond, for some) that were afraid of power windows. The older ones had problems and were expensive to fix and that hung over for years for some people. My dad was a mechanic and he disliked power windows for years because of the early problems. Same with automatic transmissions. There were a lot of people that just did not want an automatic tranny for years after they were improved and proven. Hard to say why this CP wagon has roll ups. But, I know I would like the car a lot better if it had full power. And the price was more reasonable.:D

My dad has finally gotten past that. For years him and Mom would both have rather had crank windows. Frankly, I would take it right now, almost all my power windows are shot on the wagon.

There was also a school of thought, to which my mom adhered, that if you ever found yourself submersed in water, (what were the chances of that happening), that you wouldn't be able to get the power windows down because they would've shorted out!

Power brakes also took a while to become mainstay. Many felt they were too sensitive and had a tendency to throw one through the windshield. Seat belts would've taken care of that worry.

It seems reality is stricking the owner, just a bit of a price drop. I mite do a drive by in the next couple days, not buying but would like to see it.

I've heard most (when I was a kid) older folks say you could never get out if in the water. Exactly, what the heck is the odds of that happening? Oh about 1 in 23,000,000 drivers in Ca. Sadly in California it's all too true. We probably have 100 or so each year drive in to the aquaduct system. I wouldn't reject them, I seek them.
