From what I see they are slowing reshaping the suvs( talk about a gas guzzler) into wagons it will just take a little while until they get it right. I did see one of the ford flexs the other day and its definatly a step in the right direction.

I agree, I looked t the flex very carefully and, compared to my '94 Caravan, it is definately the closest thing to a "station wagon" there is. I can 'almost' classify
my '99 Suburban as a wagon, in the classic sense but, bottom line, it's a truck.
Flex is a car based vehicle not truck or suv. It looks like it may be getting closer
    yet with the next version...

In NC the burb is classified as a wagon.

The engine design may be good mechanically, but not for maintenance. Things that shouldn't (like replacing head gaskets) require pulling the engine so maintenance is expensive. Other than that I really like our Outback.

    Cheers,

I haven't broke down enough to buy a V6 yet. Almost got a granny LeSabre with a 3.8 for longer jaunts, but couldn't break down to do it.

I do like the 350 Vortec in my truck however. Not too terrible to work on and has a decent amount of snort for a pickup.

Sadly, I have been sort of out of commission on the real new stuff, Ian. But the numbers they have been getting out of the newer engines is impressive. So are the longevity numbers, for the most part. I agree....I think a sixer should have a stick. AND, that a stick should be readily available on most any vehicle. OTOH, SOME of the new auto trannies are stout and longevity minded too. Still....some units cry for a good old stick. And, now days, they have them all the way up to a 6 speed and more. If only the G would keep their damn nose out of the industry!
