It's a 1979 Datsun 210 (AKA B210) with 200K on it, run fairly descent, still to pick up the title from the scrapper, spent a better of today cleaning it up,You can polish a turd.

There's your problem rite there, you didn't use milk crates like fannie's hubby the first time, I'll bet he used jack stands this time to fix the car!

    Sorry fannie, I couldn't resist :oops::wave:

    [IMG]...Yup fannie, I'm sucking up now:D

Fannie, why did your hubby remove a perfectly good oil pan anyway?

And in all of those years laying on cold cement or hard gravel bumping body parts and crawling around with sharp objects attacking me, I sure wished I'd had a hoist...... instead of all those stolen milk crates.:slap:

I was thinking "Datsun?" and looked up some Datsun wagons from 1974. They didn't have the same logo on the front then, though - instead, they had the whole name. Thanks. And yes turds can be polished.

But no matter how shiny it gets it's still gonna be a turd.

Hey the B210s were excellent little cars. Classic econo box but with a little flair to the styling. Toward the end of the decade when they dropped the "B" the styling got a little boring but it is really hard to go wrong with a rwd Datsun esp. with manual transmission. Fun economical cars to drive and well built (except for rust issues).

My first new vehicle was a 74 Datsun truck and I loved that thing! It cost 3 grand even and I kept it for 10 years. They offered me 500 bucks for my 65 Fastback Mustang, but I decided to keep it. I ended up doing the 70's mini truck tricks to it, lowered, toneau cover, shaved bed hooks, molded the fiberglass fenders in and the dreaded sunroof. My wife was driving it and as we approached our 30's she said we needed to sell it 'cause it was a kid's car. Last time I saw it it was dead on the 405 freeway...

Got a new battery in and started the Way Back Machine up for the first time in a couple weeks - no problem. Addressing a possible draw on the battery, I first looked at the dome light. Has a bulb in it that looks like a big glass fuse. Also doesn't work, whatever the position of the light switch. Touched the bulb - it was HOT. Took bulb out. Time for the J/Y......

Krash you'd think that would have blown a fuse. Does not seem right. Hope it's an easy fix.

I installed some new under hood insulation. It was one of those universal trim to fit jobs, but it came out pretty well...

Added new tires. Got some of the sap off. A little compounding and polishing. New air filter. Passed New Jersey emissions. Re glued one of the back vent windows. Re glued the rear mirror tab. So much more to do. After most of it's live in a garage it sat under a pine tree for a year or more. Also got a bike rack that fits the luggage rack.

This is more like "What my Wagon did to me lately".

Got a little lesson from the "University Of Life Masters Program" today that reminded me that I am not 20 anymore.
The last couple of weeks I have been making good progress on my 66 Malibu 2door Nomad Wagon conversion. Some rust repair required that it was now time to remove the tailgate. I have done jobs like this before, "No problem".
Now I figured I would be smart and removed all the heavy window mechanism inside the tailgate to make it lighter. Upon removing the last hinge bolt I slid the gate allowing the tension rod to come out of its holder. What I did not anticipate was the direction the tension rod was going to travel.
For this miscalculation I literally got a slap on the wrist (with the bar). My first though was "Ouch that is going to leave a mark". Immediately my arm was covered with blood. The trail into my house looked like a car leaked oil on my newly sealed driveway. The stairs and the kitchen looked like a crime scene. I tightly wrapped a kitchen towel around my arm to control the bleeding. Once I had the guts to look at the arm I noticed some of the guts were looking back at me. That is when I figured I might need more than the Hotwheels band aids I keep around for our Grandsons.
I found a bigger bandage, wrapped it tight, drank lots of water and gave the kitchen floor a quick cleaning before I drove to Emergency.
They said I will have a nasty bruise and nothing was broken. Got the wound cleaned real good and they closed it with 5 stitches.
On a side note, the blood totally soaked my old beat up Timex watch. Well I cleaned it and it is still ticking.
I am glad I am past that "hunky looking guy" stage in my life. With all the old and now new scars on my arms, no modeling agency would hire me.
Maybe I will go get that haircut now that I put off this morning when I decided to remove the tailgate first.
