What a shame, Fannie. Sorry to hear your mom had so much trouble. They're so many scammers out there and I think a lot of them take aim at the seniors because they know they're usually not too savvy and way too trusting. My elderly uncle got one of those emails where they told him he won something like $500,000 and all he'd have to do was send them $10K for the taxes. He was ready to do it, much to our disbelief since he was a college prof his whole life, until we told him it was a scam. Thank goodness he told us all before he did it.
There was a brilliant book the came out a few years ago called "Delete This At Your Peril". The book was nothing more than a compilation of the emails sent between a guy and someone who was trying to scam him. His ability to engage them in conversation was hilarious. He continually put requirements on his transaction, asking for larger and more insane things in lieu of the money he said he didn't want to accept. There's an excerpt from the book here. Even this little bit is hilarious. I guarantee it'll give you a little evil glee at seeing a scammer manipulated for the sake of comedy. http://www.bobservant.com/resources/Lions$2C+Gold+and+Confusion+SAMPLERpdf.pdf
