Just picked this up over the weekend. I had no idea a car like this existed but when we came across it with a sales sign in it we knew we were to enter the world of station wagons.
to the wagon train, matthews. You got stung by a Hornet and now you have the wagon bug! And...WOW...that is a NICE one! That wagon is cherry. It's showroom. I love it! Even though I had to scroll all the way to Chicago to see it all! That is a seriously honest car. Congratulations, matt!
Hey, extremely nice Hornet and I noticed it appears to be a Gucci model. These are rare! I'm a AMC buff.. so feel free to ask questions via PM. You'll like it here, fine group of people.
PM, CP?? I would love to see and read all info, questions and answers about this cherry right here! I forgot to ask, Matt....what'll you take for that wagon?? I'm jealous and I want it.
SilverFox: This PM offer: was for all those details thats too hard to print .. as this is a new car to him.. I ve owned about 7 Hornets and 5 Concords and thought I could help him be aware of items that could surface. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Very nice, needs the woodgrain option though. It looks like the Olive Garden restaurant or Sbarro pizza shop version interior? I think a Levi's Gremlin with a blue denim body wrap to match the interior would be cool. The only thing cooler would be a full woodgrain body wrap, windows too. Is that a factory Rambler battery hold down rope?
Few interesting details about the car. Most recent driver was a college student who's parents loaned it to her when her car gave out. She drove it for a few weeks while looking for another car. That's when we spotted it. The car lived on a cherry orchard (ironic?) for most of its life. It was parked outside only 2 summer months per year as it was in a barn with other equipment, and was pulled out when the equipment was needed and then put back under cover. Been there since the early 90's. The car included a notebook used by the original owner to mark each time the car was driven and for how many miles. Basically between once a week and twice a month. I don't know much about the Gucci package. Where they all the same or did each come with different options (i.e. engine size)? Thank you for the offers of help concerning maintenance. I plan on doing as much of it myself as I can and would love some pointers as things come up. I am not sure my wife would consider selling. But I'll tell her it was mentioned. You can be sure that if we did sell it it would be to an enthusiast. At the time the price did not seem to matter, as we liked the style so much. What range do these usually sell in? None of the pricing guides asked for mileage so they seemed worthless.
Matt: I looked ot over again, it appears, to be Extremely nice,, probably one of the nicest Gucci's I ve seen in years.. I've attended 18 AMC Nationals since 1980. I have some of those hupcaps if you loose one or have one thats worse than others. Specs I found: Aldo Gucci ( italian designer). Exterior colors: Snow white, Hunter green, Grasshopper green, Yuca tan. 3 spoke steering wheel standard. Production 1972 Gucci models 2,584 ,,,total Hornet prod for '72 was 77,764 "" "" 1973 2,251 Phil
Welcome! That wagon is in really nice shape. Inside, outside, it's great all over. I think congratulations are in order!
Welcome Matthew...VERY NICE WAGON...I like the interior colors, it's really different... like having the pictures going horizontal instead of vertical...silver you were almost to my house...
Love the interior! I always liked the look of the original Hornet wagon: aggressive wheel houses, nicely sloping rear deck. To my eye, they're a more cohesive design than the Hornet coupe or sedan, and far better looking than the later Eagle versions. So, here's a welcome, from one newbie to another!
Welcome, Matt. Please join in any of our discussions, or start your own if you've got some questions or an interesting story. And hey, guys - I'd beat you all to it. I'd be there in about 2 hours......
