For years I have know that vehicles could have owner plates, but having spent the last 38 years with this car, I wasn't expecting to find one at this stage in the game.

I know it probably sounds corny, but you have no idea how excited I was to be holding that once I realized what it was.

Not corny at all - I can only imagine if I found something like that with my grandfathers name on it. There'd be a depression in the pavement of six inches cause I'd be jumping up and down in place over it.

I’m sure the dealers made these up, but it’s interesting they would have this plaque. Did he order the car, or buy it out of dealer stock, or do you know. What a neat find.

I'm not 100% sure Mercman. I know it was a corporate car, so he didn't order it. They shipped it out to Washington early 65.
I sent a photo of it to my Dad the same day we found it. He responded with the message "Nice! I have some memory of that engraving - I can't put my finger on it though" and then the next day he said "I'm racking my brain, trying to remember.... As soon as I saw that engraving it was familiar to me. The details escape me now, but I recognized it immediately."

I believe Ford calls those "Protect-O-Plate." It's like a serviceman's dogtags, a stamped or engraved metal plate that shows the original purchaser's name and other info. The Protect-O-Plate for my '83 CP went to a gentleman who resided in Philomath, OR.

Yeah the protect-o-plate had the selling dealer, vin, in service date and came with every car. This with just the name reminds me of the plates Lincoln use to do with just the owners name.

GM had the Protect-O-Plate. Ford had the Ownercard. Both just contained build information on the car for service and parts. Nothing fancy like an engraved plate as shown up above.

I was reminded of the Green Lincoln when I found this one Mercman. I know it had a very similar plate/plaque on the dash.

You may recall this post from 2018 on page three of the "Travels of the Fury"

Well, we recently attended the annual Old Steel car show in Union Gap at the AG Museum. And the boys and I took the opportunity to retake some familiar photos.
