    Hi,
I have a '71 Ford Torino 500 SW. I need to replace the rear (tailgate) glass. I have the new glass but the tailgate doen't open. I thought I would be able to remove the inner panel and see why not. Boy, was I wrong! I have removed the screws but it appears the panel extends past the bottom edge of the tailgate. If anyone has a recommendation short of taking a torch to it, I would love to hear it!
    Thanks, bigmike

Bigmike, hi and welcome. I own a 77 LTD Country Squire, Im pretty sure the tailgate is virtually the same as yours. Mine has a steel panel on the inside and is fitted by loads of screws. You may find that if you drop the glass right down and remove as many screws as possible, you may be able to lever the top of the panel where it hooks over the inner side of the tailgate. It should flex enough for you to pull it back and gain access to the latches. It might be easiest to get to the top 2 and cause the tailgate to drop down.
Once its opened then you can remove the panel and straighten out.
    Hope this helps
