ok i worked for ford during the firestone debacle.

the court determined tire issue with the explorer was driver and tire mfg error. notice it isnt happening anymore but those m/y explorers are still all over the place.

firestone made a bad batch of tires. people didnt know how to handle the truck when the tires came apart at speed. 90% of the tires didnt deflate! the tread came off like a recap.

Dex-Cool and the intake manifold gasket material didn't get along well, especially in the '96-'98 model years. GM and Texaco worked on Dex-Cool together with the formulation, and went through 8 or 9 formulas of coolant and a new gasket material until the problem was solved. GM got it fixed by late 2002, since '03-'04 GM cars and trucks haven't had the coolant issues. The LT1s never had the coolant leak issues most of the other engines had because the coolant didn't go through the intake.

Didn't Ford spec. 26psi on Exploders for rear tire pressure? Seems kinda low for a heavier type of vehicle, and most of the public doesn't check tire pressure regularly, I always wondered what the tire pressures were on the Exploders that had failure issues, but it was only the Firestone's that were throwing there treads, and in warmer climates.
