Hello all, Just retired from 33 years of police work and moved from Connecticut to to North Carolina . My retirement gift to myself is a 1957 Ford Country Sedan Wagon. Flew out to California checked it out , bought it and flew home. It was a long day. So I will be looking to you guys for some info and enjoying all the station wagon talk. Pete
to the wagon forum. Sounds like a lot of great things are happening. Enjoy your new location, retirement, and your new toy. After18 years retired I stopped keeping score. Oh, 18 1/2 years if I was keepin score.
That wagon sounds like fun. I have a buddy who, on separate occasions, bought a '71 Chevelle and a '73 GTO in CA and drove them both back to Memphis. Quite the adventures.
I am not so bold as to drive a 55 year old car from California to NC. The car is in pretty nice shape but I am taking the chickens way out and having it shipped by Inter City Lines. They expect to pick it up after the holidays so I expect to see it about mid January. Thanks all for the kind welcome to the site. Pete
Welcome to the forum petew. Perfect timing, it is Christmas, so you can gift yourself all kinds of neat things for the wagon, in addition to the wagon itself. Pictures are always good. I have a fondness for 1957 wagons of all makes and models.
I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to drive it Pete, I think having it shipped is a very smart move.
Welcome! That is one SWEET wagon! Hope you have many, many years of happy motoring with the old girl. Once you get her home, and get to trust her, then maybe you can feel secure enough to take her on the long trips she would enjoy.
NICE!!!!!! And it has green on it - my favorite color. Welcome to the world of 1957's. Is this your first? I had 55 through 57 Chev's but a buddy had a '57 Pontiac 4 door hardtop that I really liked, and I wanted a Nomad. When I found out that I could have both the Nomad style and 57 Pontiac I was delighted and spent the next several years (pre-internet) looking. I've always liked the same year Ford wagons as well. We have a buddy with a '54 Ford Wagon, CS54 on the forum, and we tow our trailers with our wagons to various events. He also sold his 1951 Airstream after we sold ours and bought a 1959 when we bought our 1960 Airstream so this summer the two green wagons will be heading down the highway with matching trailers in tow. You will probably be amazed at how much interest your car generates. Gas stations can be obstacle courses trying to get in and out in a timely manner without being caught by people who want to admire your car, take pictures of it, ask all about it, and reminisce about the one they remember they or someone they knew had just like it exactly.
Yup, first 57. I was attracted to the color scheme and the fact that it is a 3 speed on the column with a " Thunderbird " 312. it's an original 3 speed overdrive car but the guy I just bought it from took the od trans for one of his other cars. Just so happens that I have a 3 speed od from my 56 Merc sitting in the garage so I will make it proper when it gets home. The Merc now has a 5 speed in it. I look forward to performing a mechanical restoration and tending to some of the body work issues that I noticed . It will get driven once it's done. Pete
