I like that style on some vehicles, JRW, but I don't think they are right for the Safari. If I could find some reproduction Rally I wheels in the correct size, I might consider those.....

having the rear axles and drums re-drilled would be my last option...just because theres sooo many wheels out there !!...thats all:)

as for 'adapters'...all the new 'billet' ones are good product...i sell them daily !

and remember all the crap i went thru with the 68 ?...putting my 14" TT's on it?....well I drove it all last year and towed my 3000 lb trailer with them
    .....and nobody died :thumbs2:

the only thing about the spacers ...is that they will stick your wheels out minimally an INCH....depending on whos you buy

Steelies are not a bad idea especially if your car is a daily driver. They are easy to keep clean and you always have the option of switching center caps for a different look. I ran a set of aluminum wheels on my 37 Chevy truck and was constantly cleaning them. The change to a steel wheel, trim ring and cap gave me more fun time behind the steering wheel and fit the look for the truck.
My current 66 Malibu Wagon 2door conversion already had a set of new steel wheels with 56 Chevy caps. The look is growing on me and they may stay for awhile.
Currently planning a change to steel wheels for my 37 Chevy Sedan. If you like a more period look, you can't go wrong with some type of Torque Thrust or spoke mag which is what I went for on my 56 ElCamino and 58 Chevy builds.
We used to sell American Racing Wheels at our former yard. Check them out for ideas. New or if you find a good used set, they make a decent product.

RMay I love those wheels on your 37 truck or almost any older vehicle. And I love the truck.
My 39 Ford coupe has original Torque Thrust D's and my 55 Chevy wagon has Cragar SS which is another great universal wheel for anything.
There are so many nice looking wheels we could change them every week.
Nothing beats a standard chrome reverse wheel with baby moons. Easy to clean.

Yes I am a H.A.M.Ber. I got several PM's on the H.A.M.B. asking me about my 66 Malibu Wagon 2door conversion. Since 66 is one year too new for the H.A.M.B, I would only sneak a small comment or a picture in an appropriate thread from time to time. Then I found this site where I can post my build.

So far this has been a decent site. I have seen a few other H.A.M.B. members here also.
Even these guys seem to like my 56 ElCamino conversion despite the fact that it was originally a 2door 210 Wagon.

Many of us also belong to the HAMB group. Old cars are in our blood.

Hold out for the RallyII's. Nothing says both stock AND Pontiac like 'em while looking great, too.

Did someone say 5X5 Rally II?!

When i first started building my wagon I really wanted to run 22's on the rear and 20's chrome in the front. While i was saving the funds a buddy of mine said he had a set of 5x5 Rally II's in the next room. Sold em to me for $50 which was a steal. The center caps cost more than the wheels! My 69 Custom S has the 5x4.75 Rally II's but these 5x5 Rally II's have got to be hard to come by, i just lucked out i suppose. My only bitch about these wheels is that i bought some aftermarket center caps that instead of having the clips it has a large washer with a nylock that attaches it to the wheel. In the rear I had no fitment problems but that damn little stud and nut in the front smashes my bearing caps on the front hub so i had to add a 1/4 inch spacer. I hate the fact that i have one of them ****tin things on my car because anyone who has ran spacers know how dangerous them bastards are!

    Don't think I would worry about a 1/4" spacer.......
A 1" adapter is another story......
....and find some trim rings if you haven't already!

I complained about spacers but for years I ran 1/2" spacers on the rear of my 1941 Ford with Nova rear when I put the old type GM Rallys on it. Nothing fell off.
I also had tubes in two Radial tires.
I also painted two cars with Rustolium.
Maybe I never had trouble because I didn't know any better. :biglaugh:
