I'm playing Santa Claus at the local Head Start

My wife has been employed by the Head Start here for the last 19 years. Every year they have a hard
time getting someone to be Santa. A couple years ago my wife bought a Santa suit. She has played Santa when no one else would but it is usually a employee and the kids pick up on it most of the time. So this year my wife and her coworkers were talking about it and decided with my big beard and jumbo petit build I would be their Santa. Since the kids don't know me it may just work! I do believe I will show up in my big red sleigh with a Christmas tree strapped to the roof rack!

I have to admit I am happy they volunteered me. My kids are older (14 and 17) so I still remember how fun it was to see the excitement in their face when they would see Santa when they were young and miss that.

Dennis I'll bet you're gonna enjoy this as much as the kids. Way to go. We've been missing you here and wondering what kind of trouble you've been getting into.

 

This is so cool! Did you get a tree on top of your red sleigh? Did the kids believe? You had fun didn't you?

This was done by a couple gentlemen (Stan Boreson and Doug Setterberg) who were big here in Seattle in the Fifties through the Seventies (and Stan Boreson STILL performs on his accordion to this day!), and in '70 or '71 they produced this album, Called "Yust go nuts at Christmas." Here now, is "I was Santa Claus at the schoolhouse (for the PTA):

 

You need to listen to the whole album on Black Friday to put you in the spirit of the season.

 

As an aside, Boreson and Setterberg went to Everett High School here in town way back when; according to one of my high school teachers, who also went to Everett High and was one year behind them, they were always performing at the high school, the Sons of Norway hall, etc., just totally cracking all audiences up. I would've loved to have been alive back then just to see them perform.

 

We have set the date for December 10th since it works out for the school and my work. I was a little disappointed to find out the kids will not see me pull up because they have 7 classrooms of young kids so I will go class to class so the other classrooms aren't disrupted waiting for Santa Claus. So no decorating my wagon I guess.

I know it sounds like a cliché but I really do have everything I want or need and have a pretty good life. My wife and I just don't exchange gifts, we get what we want when funds allow anytime. My mother in law, father in law and my mom and dad still get us every year something even though we plead with them not to for the last 20 years. We told them this year we were doing this Santa thing and we wanted to get the kids at the school a small toy and they have 70 kids between ages of 1 and 4 so contribute to that instead of getting us stuff. So with their help we have got every boy a Catipillar dump truck and every girl a baby doll with bottle. My wife found these buy one get one free on the trucks and buy 2 get 1 free baby doll. Thanks to my wife's bargain shopping we got them nicer toys than I imagined! When I asked my district manager for the day off and why, he showed up the next day with 70 stockings with cups, animal cracker boxes and things to stuff them with. I never expected this to turn into this big of a deal and has me already wondering how I will top it next year!

 

Same here. We buy the grand kids some little toy but haven't exchanged gifts between ourselves for years. We aren't wealthy but we also don't need anything. What we do need in life we buy when we need it. Like a year ago I bought a 46" TV on Black Friday for our other house. Even that came in handy for our daughter's family when they borrowed the house.
