I was on the bike yesterday in Taguig City going to get some dog food for our Chihuahua puppy, that I swapped a lap top for as a birthday gift for my kids, and I saw a black 78-79 Fairmont Wagon hearse. I was in bumper to bumper, stop on a dime in less then 1/100th of a second traffic, so i could not get a pic of it. Its the first true American oldschool FORD I have seen here other then old tacky Pusstangs that have had abortion treatment mods done to them like bondo'ed bodyskirts and crap like that. This Fairmont was loaded with a fresh stiff in the back and a parade behind it. I will keep my eyes open for it and any other wagons worthy of note here to get pics for you guys. Most are then new FUGLY econo sh*t boxes that I could give less then a bald rats arse for. But once in awhile I see something eye catching, but I am usually fighting for my life in traffic and cant grab my phone out of my pocket to get a pic.

With Memphis sitting on the Arkansas and Mississippi borders, pickups and SUVs seem to greatly outnumber cars around here. As for the cars, it seems like 85% of them are Asian-branded FWD. (And they just fired up a Toyota plant just south of here to crap out thousands more Camrys. :banghead3:) So, not many wagons at all. Every once in a blue moon I cross paths with a rough, dark blue 90's Caprice wagon on my morning commute.

Oh yeah, big time. Lots of car lots had at least 2 big bins with 2-3 decant looking older cars nosed in so the back half would stick in the air. My little island "used" to have lots of older iron cars ( years like your wagons and mine)in mint shape daily driven etc, there litrely is nothing left. Along with the car lots our provintial goverment was giving away cash and or $1500 towards a dealer bout car no older than 4 years along with a year bus pass or a new bycicle. :slap:

Locally, there are a few. I live in a town of about 1500 people and since I've been here (10 years) there was a very nice 67 AMC Ambassador,.... then I came across my Buick about,
what's it been, 2 years ago, then, for about a month or two, there was a thoroughly thrashed blue '94 Roady, and over the summer a very nice maroon, mid 80's Colony Park
showed up. I haven't talked to the guy yet as our paths don't cross at an appropriate time but I hope to some time. Over the summer, somebody who must have heard wagons were hot in the market place, placed a '74 or '75 LTD on the hill, with a FOR SALE sign , red with the wood and the rust. The car looks okay as you drive by and the interior and upper body aren't too bad but the rockers are completely gone as well as the rear quarters, the lower fenders behind the front wells and all kinds of other places you don't want to find visible rust. The note in the window said, "these cars are hot items, worth a lot of money. One just like this recently sold at Barrett Jackson for $24,000... " ( I"m guessing it was one of Elvis' cars...) Not interested...
    Never sold.

There was a ton of Taurus wagons there. They're very popular around here.

Yeah, we have a fair share of 90's and up wagons. A couple 80's wagons too. I guess a normal # given the age of the cars. However it seems like SUV's are slowly morphing back down to wagons.

Today I had to run some errands. On my way out of our small, little town I decided to count how many wagons I saw. Every morning when I go to work there is always a silver Saturn parked by the hardware store, but it's not there today so it doesn't count.
All together I counted five. But I was able to get a picture of only one because I was driving. We had stopped at Tim Horton's so #3 could get a coffee and this one drove up. A young man about mid twentys was driving, warmed my heart, a young man driving this little wagon...

I'm seeing fewer and fewer classic old wagons around. So few that they really stick out like a sore thumb. Parked next to a '83/'84(?) Country Squire at the mall a few weeks ago. Would have loved to chat with the owner, but he/she wasn't around.

I don't think much about the more modern stuff - the Volvos and Subarus (lots of those around here...), and the Taurus' / Sables, etc. Still enough of them around....

I think I need to make a more concerted effort to make contact with the owners of these 'survivor' wagons....

So... not to be too offensive or argumentative. But is a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice wagon now considered to be a classic? What constitutes a "classic"? If it is the storage area at the back with a tailgate/liftgate... then would not a modern SUV fit that mold? If that is the case.... then Station Wagons are alive and well!

If it is a date thing.... then I would have to draw the line at 20 years old at the very least in order to be a "Classic" and that would be on or about 1982.

The current date by most Hot Rod groups is 1977 I believe.

Again, not wanting to stir up the pot.... or am I?

    :Welcome: Welcome to 2002!

Actually, it's generally accepted that 25 years old constitutes a classic which, now in 2012 means 1987. Five more years and everything I own will fit that mold. :tiphat:

While they're pretty new, I do include the Caprice/Roadie wagons as classics, in my eyes, because of that dinosaur of a platform they were on.

In my way of thinking, I also include the '91-'96 B-Body wagons, particularly because they were not replaced with anything.
