Cars have been replaced by video games, for most of the current generation. Plus, many are taught in the so-called "schools" that cars are the root of all that is evil with the world, too.

That really came out looking nice. A little detail work makes all the difference!

Like all the comment, and yes Joseph can work on a phone or a computer like a wiz, but I had to show him how to turn the heater on in the Denali a while back.....rocket science I guess.... :banghead3:

Even Johnathan, who wants to drive, was not sure which was the brake and which was the gas pedal, and also had to "learn" how to use a turn signal. Now I adopted these kids, but they have ridden in cars all their lives....what did they do riding in cars growing up...I remember as a kid I STUDIED exactly what my Mom and Dad were doing, and could not wait to turn 16.

Oh wait...kids today grow up watching mobil DVD players and playing hand-held video games rather than watching parents drive...or heaven-forbid looking out the windows at the scenery passing by.....

    :banghead3:

I will say both Eddie and Tuck know what goes on!

I agree Mike. No matter who was driving or where I sat, I watched what the driver was doing much of the time. Especially the shifting parts. I'll swear I could alreay drive before I sat in the driver seat.
The rest of the time my younger brother and I looked out the windows.
My own grandkids play with their lap tops, phones, and other gizmos no matter how short the trip.
Somehow the first grandson got his license and drives . The grand daughter took her first leason while we were back in Ilinois. Hopefully by the time we return she will have learned something.
Eventually all your kids will be driving Mike.

Not only could I operate all the controls on my family's vehicles (or at least know what they did..), I also learned to navigate pretty well by my very early teens. I had a pretty good sense of direction, and knew every bit of the entire west side of the Los Angeles basin, from the Santa Monica mountains down to L.A. International airport. I traveled all around that area by bicycle frequently. Made many a trip over to the LA Airport by myself beginning at the age of around 12 (20 mile round trip).

When I was 14, my folks put me on a Greyhound by myself to go visit my aunt and cousin in the San Francisco Bay area. We had traveled that route by car so often, I knew where I was the whole way. I could have easily done it by myself in a car.

Same here! I rode the wheels off my bikes as a kid. Knew every inch of my neighborhood, and a good portion of wherever we lived. Plus Dad loved road trips and I got to read the maps for him. Taught me a LOT.

No joke, my kids hardly know how to get around the neighborhood. In the summer I have to MAKE them go outside. They don't even hardly go to friends houses, would rather sit at home and chat online.

Now I work for Dell, so I make my living with computers, and through computers I've found out TONS of information and found many now friends, like all you folks, but still, when I was a kid I was NEVER home. I knew it was time to come home when the street lights came on. Until then, I was on my bike, at friends houses, playing in parks or creeks, anything but being stuck at home!

    Pretty amazing.
