Part of 'the process' in all this is input from the missus..... We were at a small car show yesterday (no wagons, unfortunately), and there were some 65/66 Chevys that she liked. So a mid-late 60's GM could be a winner. Showed her a pic of the little Lancer wagon. She said it was ugly.
the Rev I knew you'd come to your senses sooner or later No one said KK did that! Just said he's lookin for a wagon!
the trick is to remove the fly from the ointment without anyone else knowing. remeber tis better to ask for forgiveness than permission!
I agree. My dad had a '66 Caprice wagon (with 'da wood..) which I didn't particularly like. Although they are similar, the '65 Impala with its triple round lights in the rear has that classic 'Chevy' look that the '66 just misses. All in all though, I would much prefer a '66 or '67 Bonneville, but you just don't see those too often. -- We'll see......
I know I've said it a million times before, but my dad's first car was a '66 Caprice wagon with the wood, he bought from his folks. I've been searching for a reasonably priced one for years.
I had one a long time ago. 396 V8, 4 bbl carb. Bananna cream yellow outside, black vinyl inside. Rear facing third seat, 8 track stereo...... But the rear side window trim trapped dirt and leaves, which caused them to rust out just like the rear windows on the sedans and coupes. Most people junked them instead of fixing the rust holes. Thats probably why they are scarce nowadays.
Dad's was brown with the 396 Turbo Jet and a TH400 tranny. It had an after market 8-track that was stolen while he was hunting. He sold it to his brother who souped it up, used to race it a lot, and finally crashed it.
My dad's '66 Caprice Estate was a rather sparsely-equipped version. Had the 4-barrel 327 IIRC (could have been the 2-barrel - I don't remember for sure) PS, PB, AM-only radio, NO A/C, NO P/W, etc. and it was a 6-passenger. There were 5 kids living at home at the time. You think they could have spring an extra $100 or whatever for a decent 'way-back' seat, but nooooooo. So my younger step-brother and I always got cooked and bounced around in the way-back cargo area on family trips.
