I realize this thread is pretty old. Norm suggested that linking similar threads together to make information easier to browse through might be worthwhile. Seemed like a pretty good idea. Here's a link to my recent headliner replacement in my 1981 Parisienne sedan. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14214&highlight=replace+carpet
I really like the denim look. I have a feeling it will last better than the fabric. Especially since I use my car to haul things occasionally, I'm always hitting the headliner with something, and I end up with little rips and dings.
I had a 1980 Chevy Malibu as my tow behind for our motorhome. Too many campouts in damp places caused the headliner to start sagging then coming loose. As Tedy wrote awhile back, that thing started shedding foam off the back like a sick puppy! I ripped all that old headliner and foam off but can't remember if I replaced it or left it that when when I sold the car. Modern saggy headliners seem normal.
If I ever install a Denum headliner I'm using real bluejeans with the pockets. Just think how handy that will be for registration, insurance, and other important papers.
Not a bad idea. You could go to a secondhand shop, and clip off the designer labels and patch quilt them in.
