    The black plate means the car was sold new in California but says nothing about how long it stayed there. I bet it was a storage shed find since it was not a barn find. :rofl:

    Nope.

    The CA black plate was from 1963 - 1969 (1970 for commercial). It means that the car was REGISTERED in California during that time, NOT necessarily sold new. If the tabs have been kept up, and as the plates stay with the CAR and not the owner, it means that the car has been registered continuously from the initial CA registration to the present time, or at least until the last tab expired. They have non-op registration there, also, which means that a car can keep its original tags, but not driven on the street.

    If you really want to know if it has been in the state its whole life look for some back up paperwork. My 64 has the orginal plates and the suspense ticket that shows the vin# and plate # issued to it in 64.

    The '62 Pontiac Bonnevilles had the 4 speed Hydramatic, also called Jetaway. Turbo Hydramatics came out in '64 on Cadillacs.
