Hi, Thought I would post some pictures of this super rare station wagon and the restoration it is going through. Hope you like the effort that has been put in this wagon to save it. Mark was doing a fine job and now I have been doing what I can to finish DA FREAK !!! Gona have fun and make it nice but keep it in my low budget range. AMC price guide 1994, My wagon is the proof that this special wagon was built, DA FREAK found in a PA cornfield 2001, 1967 Ambassador factory 4-speed station wagon 990 , " Da ' FREAK " !!!! I am now restoring my Wagon to look like this and enjoy it for many years . I will do the work at my friends restoration shop this way I can enjoy other muscle cars and great friends. Think about it! A 1967 Ambassador Wagon with a factory installed 343 4bbl, 2.64 1st gear T-10 4 spd, 3.15 limited slip rear, dual exhaust, power disc brakes, quick ratio manual steering, front bench seat all in Barbados Blue paint with a dark blue interior. There may have only been between 9 to 12, 1967 and 1968 full size wagons built with the 343 4bbl 4 spd combo period. This may be the rarest Regular Production AMC ever built, believed to be the only Ambassador survivor. Rarer than the 1969 ½ Hurst prepared SS AMX. or Hurst SC/Rambler ! Thanks, Matt & Tracy Phoenix,AZ.
Thats a cool Wagon......and even a 'Hand-Shaker' too. It should be a riot to drive the Country in :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
When I was a kid my dad had a white Ambassador but I can't remember for certain if it was a wagon or not, but my recollection is that it was. He was a salesman, spent a fair bit of time traveling and he always had wagons for hauling stock etc. He really liked the car, only owned it for a short time and it was in the shop to get something repaired and they were welding (either beside it or on it) and it touched off a fire and the car was destroyed. I remember going to the shop with him and seeing the burnt out shell. As soon as I saw the picture of yours it reminded me about that, it would have been about the same year car. What a cool find!
Wow 4 spd, super rare indeed. Glad to see it wound up with somone who appreciates it for what it is. Definitely, keep us in the loop as you proceed with the restoration. So far, it looks like you're doing everything right. Nice find.
Thanks, We are truly having fun with it. If any of you ever see another 67 or 68 Ambassador or Rebel wagon please let me know. Ambassador was longer then the Rebel by 4 inches in the front fenders. 67 and 68 were much different then any other years. You just don't see or hear of any in any combonation. I do have a picture of a 68 4-speed Rebel wagon I will find and post soon.
That's one special wagon! I was cruising for Ford gaskets and found this personal project site. Some interesting parts cross-reference sources for AMC/Rambler vehicles. http://www.fixrambler.com/art8.html Main page: http://www.fixrambler.com/
Today I worked on a piece of rocker trim. Trying to pound out a few dents on the kitchen table ! Tracy was real cool about it and even laughed . Nice way to watch a NASCAR race. Note the old prices above !!!!!
This is pretty close to the look DA FREAK will be when done, these are not done yet. Will have some with roof rack and rocker trim with no hood scoop. What do you think ? Remember there not done and I have a different background that will be used.
That is a GREAT car, congrats on the find, and your renderings are all very slick. As much as I love muscle cars, seeing a factory four speed wagon is about as cool as it gets. Thanks for the pics, looking forward to seeing the finished product. Arvid Svendsen
