    One might think it's an investment in their customers and in building up reputation to invest in such fluids, though.

    Not saying this person didn't, but it is not uncommon for them not to as stated.
    I service cars for 4 used lots and 2 major rental car companies, I wouldn't buy a car from any of them and when I buy a car from anyone, if it is used, I change the oil for my piece of mind.

    So one might think but one probably didn't do.

    Oh well.

    Speaking of which, I got a 1999 Suburban Diesel recently and then I had the oil changed with some Mobil-1 Full Synthetic. I'll change the transmission and radiator fluids too, eventually.

    Muahahahah. Most of these guys could give a crap about return customers. They are only concerned with maximizing their dollars on the latest transaction.
