The Cougar was basically a gussied-up Montego MX this year. I'm wondering why the guy went to the trouble of special-ordering this Montego MX, when, for pretty much the same money, he could have had a Cougar? And $18k? He might be over-reaching a bit there. In spite of the flowering verbiage in the ad, surprisingly little information is given on the car itself. What equipment does it have? Radio? Size of the V8? People would like to know these things...
I kind of wonder when those photos were taken... They're either scanned in film or someone liked to use the "make my pictures look crappy\washed out" filter that all the cool kids like these days.
This immediately occurred to me, too. It doesn't look like a modern digital camera image. It looks like a scanned image of a Kodacolor print made back when the car was new.
Looks like a collector car from new. Special order with FoMoCo Glamour Paint - looks like no A/C. No idea what engine.
I love my Montegos. Even as nice as this one seems to be, they'll never get that kind of money for it. There's just not that kind of following and demand for them. Take the 1 off the front of the price, then maybe....
This one is back with a couple of new photos. The 302 engine and lack of A/C are not selling points. 1974 Mercury Montego MX Brougham - cars & trucks - by owner -... (craigslist.org)
