California dealers usually take the plates off the car and issue a paper tag in the windshield. The buyer waits....waits.....and waits.....still waiting nearly 3 months for the DMV to send new plates and stickers for month/year. I got the registration for mine but am still waiting for the plates, new plate number is listed on the registration and after Jan 3 I'll be contacting the DMV to double check on whereabouts.

When it comes to selling a 60's car from CA, maintaining the black plates does help to get a car out the door. This dealer does leave the plates on the vehicles. The '88 Buick I mentioned did not have its plates removed an was photographed with them on. Again, I would pass due to the history of this dealer. Only at a super price would I bite.
