    This wagon came from farming country. My guess is that a 289/3-speed manual combo was a lot more common in those parts than you would think. Out west in California as a kid, I remember cruisin' the car lots at new car introduction time, and virtually every one of these Fords would have had a 352 or 390 and automatic in it. If you wanted a manual 3-speed you probably would have had to order it.

    Surprisingly, you also saw very few of the Fords and Chevys that were 'loaded' with power windows and locks, A/C, etc. This changed as time went on, but most vehicles of the same type were dealer-ordered about the same, to appeal to the widest range as possible.

    If I bought the car I'd probably have to repaint it (and repair the rust spots). My snobbish neighbours already give my '96 Chevy K1500 (not pristine, but not bad for the year either, only 62k miles) the evil eye.

    Or else get me some new neighbours! :yup:
