Update on my tank. Got it back in the car and filled it with a couple gallons of gas. No leaks so far. I'll put more gas in it when I can afford it. Not counting the new fuel sender I had to buy (110$) I spent 160$ for the repair. I installed a clear inline fuel filter to keep track of any contaminates flowing thru.

Found not too many pinholes so far. Bottom although looks pretty bad is more solid than I originally thought. Top of tank got moisture trapped and thats where the pinholes are so far. Please add tips on how to remove the sending unit (see picture) tank15.JPG

Might have caught a good break! Looks like they made one sending unit only for all 63' & 64' Galaxies and Station Wagons. Same part it appears like. New $45 bucks!

That tank looks like the one in my 60 except for a vent on mine near the filler neck. It's also in waaaay better shape than what I had to work with. The radiator shop I took it to might have declined to fix mine but I've taken a few things there in the past for repairs. Plus I wasn't in a hurry. I think he had over a month.

You can;t really see it in your picture, but there is a locking ring on top of the sending unit that holds it in place. Take a good stiff brush and go over that area to get rid of the dirt and grime.

The locking ring turns counter-clockwise to remove, and once the teeth get lined up with the retainer, it will come out. They make a wrench for them but you normally don't need it - a big pair of channel locks with just enough pressure to hold teh ring will usually get it free.

The locking ring and o-ring seal under it are readily available, as they are the same from car to car. Pay attention to the way the sending unit is oriented when installing it, installation is basically the reverse of removal, just being sure to get the o-ring in place before tightening it down under the sending unit with the locking ring.

Believe you can get the lock ring and square cut seal at rock auto,,,i did anyway with my 68...hammer and a punch,,,taps off counter clockwise..when resealing have the parts clean and add a tiny bit of lube of your choice before tapping the new lock ring and seal tight..

And make sure the seal is properly seated before attempting to lock it down.

Got the ring off and the fuel sender out, toasted as to be expected. Gives a better look inside the tank. Its going to take some work but I think it will survive!
