When I was just a little kid my dad had his first gas station and our car was a Model A...I think a '29. I remember him setting the fuel & spark and crank starting it. Even after we got a new car my dad kept the Model A around for years and used it for work. Brings back great memories.:yup:

That isn't too old of a vehicle. Just when I think I saw everything----I saw everything!:thumbs2:

I'm thinking that Ford flatheads had hand cranks until at least past the 1948's. Don't know of 49-53 with a hole in the bumpers. Last handcrank car I had was my 1933 Chevy.
Do motorcycles count? My 1950 Harley had a kick start.

Way back when Ransom E. Olds, I believe, had a mother who got hurt cranking the old Oldsmobile, he evented something called an electric starter.

I bought a 1929 Model A for around $250 because the newly Ford rebuilt engine was locked up. I knew a secret. Sometimes the starter would lock up on the flywheel. We tried the handcrank then just pushed the car back and forth till the starter gear released.
    PS--That silverfox must be old!
