i thought that was american indians that didnt want their picture taken?

anyway, CE is right. i dont know how much profit is involved. but a lot of amish youth work in construction around here and need taken to the sites, some need to go to lowes to get lumber to make furnature.
and some city's are not exactly "buggy freindly" (i.e. new castle, pa) so they need rides to the bank or to handle official business.

Had a chance to talk to someone driving one of those Smart Cars.I asked him,"Aren't you afraid of getting squished like a bug in a beer can,in that thing?" He smiled and replied,"No.I'd like to think that, because it's so small and nimble.I'd be able to maneuver away from such things." So,I asked,"Putting the positive spin on it,huh?" He smiled again and said,"Yeah" I used to drive a 67 Beetle.Nowadays,a car that size would be considered big.

That's impressive alright! That bent right front wheel would have made hamburger of the driver's feet and legs though.

I'm not so sure, Normy...there are other tests at YouTube as well that the camera shows the leg area after one of the crashes.
Not to mention that MOST cars are toast at 70 MPH head on.

To be fair and accurate, it wasn't exactly head-on. The barrier was about 30 degrees from perpendicular to the car. That angle deflected a lot of the collision energy to the side. Car held up pretty well, though - a survivable impact.

I think they did that on purpose so that the driver would receive most of the impact.

I had one of those turds, lasted less then 1 month of hauling. It was a 96 4.0ltr extended AWD. It wouldnt move itself out of its own way if you payed it to. The susp was VERY weak and even towing a 14 ft aluminum fishing boat with a 9hp motor, it would drag the rear bumper down the road. These abominations were sad.

Private Taxi service for Amish people. At the time it was $0.75 a mile, if I hooked to anything it was $1.25 a mile. 100% tax free, the government wasnt getting any of my money if they were not gonna allow me to claim vehicle maintence and gas receipts. I tried to be a good lil taxable subject the first year, they screwed me, so the 2nd and 3rd was non of their damn business.

That is true, for the most part. The Elders, who are still holding onto old traditions believe that taking pictures steals their souls, but the younger folks, my age and younger dont mind having their pics taken. Atleast the communites around here. Each church has its own set of rules and beliefs. The churches are devided on sections of the area. Since they cannot hire a taxi to take them to church or do any type of work for profit on a Sunday, they can only travel by buggy so many miles. They have mass at a different house every other wekend. they do not have church but 2 times a month. They take turns and they all meet there and the host puts on a big dinner/lunch for the congregation. So they basicly devide their churches on the blocks. This block of roads here will go to this church, where that block will go to that church. Each having its own group of elders, who make the special rules for their congregation. One church to the next will have different rules as to what they can and cant do. As the elders die off, the younger generations, who hated the rules when they were growing up, change the rules. Before I die, we will see Amish driving cars and having electricity.

Now some communiteies cannot hire a taxi at all. The communities un Sugargrove, PA, 20 miles SE of here is one of them. The ones in Mayville, NY, cannot hire a single taxi to take them the entire trip. They must be dropped off and have another pick them up to complete the trip, stupid? Hell Yes! But thats the way their churches are run, bass-ackwards.

Here are pics of my buddy Sam Troyer and his son Samuel. That 22" Waleye is one that lil Sammy caught using a Spiderman fishing pole, lol
Sam is 39 and one of the coolest guys I know. I have hung out with him alot in my life, being my neighbor growing up, we hunted, deer, turkey, coon, woodchuck and phesent together, did more then our share of fishing and beer drinking too. We used to go out and just ride around in his buggy for hurs and hours, drinkin and listening to his custom built sterio setup that I made for him, though it was frowned upon by the church, we kept it in my garages, so he could pick it up and drop it off when he left home. his dad, Wally, has been one of their church's elders for years and years. Wally and his family were the first Amish family to settle in our area 32 years ago. Now my parents lil town consists of 60% amish and there are homes popping up like weeds where there used to be nothing but open fields and woods.

I printed these out for them and made one black and white, for an antique look.

Once overheard a chiropractor telling someone who'd been in a "head-on" collision that;rarely do cars actually hit head-on.There's always some angle of deflection in the impact.AND,three-point seatbelts have a tendency to make you twist towards the center of the vehicle during the crash...And,hitting a wall or guardrail isn't the same as getting run over by a Peterbilt.Or large SUV.Let's see THAT crash test!:yup:

We've got lots of old Hutterite and Mennonite farmers up. The Mennonites have the nicest big black Suburbans in the country. Don't know how they do it during the Winter.

The Hutterite farms are HUGE. 10,000 acres is medium sized. One of the families has a private airstrip down here, but further north, most of them need one for spraying their crops.

Both are highly mechanized for farm operations, but live a very non-technical life, making their own stuff as much as they can. Furniture, clothes, handtools.

The grain farmers up here have these monster tractors (16 tires isn't unusual) 8 foot high, filled with lime to pull there equipment through the fields. The biggest and well-maintained. Real Prairie folk. Good people. (y)

Not much on the road that's Peterbuilt-proof! :rofl2: I always say that the Tie goes to the train, bus or semi, not necessarily in that order.

Anyone that's taken a Skid-School course should be able to minimize the impact. Ford used to offer them up in Eastern Canada. Here, they give you a discount for attending the Provincial course (winter driving, but it works on dirt roads too.)
