In my opinion the 4.3 liter is the greatest V6 ever made. Again, just an opinion. But we have a 95 Jimmy that I learned to drive in that is still going strong with 204000 miles on it, and it gets 21 mpg city. My mom's TrailBlazer, an 02 also has the 4.3 and gets 22 mpg and it's a big ride! They run great, haul great, and go through anything. I've even had to take the jimmy a time or two over the wagon in the snow, because I live in the middle of nowhere!

We had a '93 Astro LT for a few years. I liked it a lot. Only downside, it wasn't powerful enough to tow our travel trailer, so we had to switch it for a P/U.

Another example of a "writer" who gets all his "facts" from reading others work and has no clue what he is really speaking about.
He did list some crap cars, the Cavalier included, but this was intended as a disposacar anyway.
Pintos? He couldn't find anything more original to pick on than Pintos of three decades ago, likely before the twit was born.
Detroit has certainly made thier own bed but most of what he listed sold well and that is the automakers purpose.

    that sinking feeling

And if you're going to write about cars that got Detroit into it's present predicament, including older cars like the Pinto makes no sense.Ford survived the Pinto fiasco and did even better afterwards. The Pinto didn't sink Detroit.Just as the Edsel didn't sink Detroit. There's more to Detroit's present predicament than the cars they made.It has more to do with the likes of GMAC loaning money out on failed mortgages, than the cars they've been making...I know,I know---The Lincoln Versailles and the Cadillac Cimarron---THEY sunk Detroit!!!:dancing:

I think people hear part of something someone said, then their mind starts racing and they dont hear the end of it. the Cavalier and Astro may have killed Chevrolet but in a different way than the stupid article says.

You have to look at the mindset and the means of the people who would shop for a brand new chevy. Lower budget, looking for good value that lasts, and why replace something if its still working. So you have people buying these vehicles that dont trade every few years, who dont spend alot of money on a new car to start with.. so yes, GM may have bitten themselves in the butt on these, but only because they were too good.

Buick is a very good car, but the people who buy Buicks, trade every few years so that us 'havenots' can buy their used ones. Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find a good used Chevy? They are almost nonexistent because the person who bougth it new is still driving the thing...

Something I've noticed, that fits into that,I guess is;if Toyotas and Nissans and Beemers and MBZ's and Acuras are such wonderfull cars, how come they have the biggest sections in the used car ads?If they're such great cars, why aren't their owners hanging on to them?..You'd think,if they're such good cars, their owners would want them for a long time!...but NOOOOOO!!!;) Are these people who buy cars they should be leasing instead, because that's how trendy they are?And they just don't know it?..Stupid people!(y) And if Chevys are such bad cars, why do people buy them and keep 'em for life, instead of leasing them?Cuz they're crappy cars?..yeah right!:disagree:

    those crappy American cars.

Before the Pinto scandal broke. Before recalls became a weekly occurence. One of my friends's dad told us kids this,"The problem with most American cars is,they get sold to most Americans." They don't like maintaining them. They don't like taking care of them. They don't want to have to do anything to them, except gas 'em up and drive 'em...A few years back,Toyota did a "lie in advertisement" commercial for the Corolla.Corolla's are so maintenance free, you can weld the hood shut! And then forget about it.. :49: Another, yeah right. That's what most Americans really want.A car they don't have to be responsible for.Just get in and drive, and if it ever breaks down,it's somebody elses fault,,,and THEY have to fix it for FREE!!!:dancing: Wouldn't that be nice.

Hauling amish is taking the amish people from place to place they need to go because they don't drive cars, however they can ride in a car that's somebody elses, ore watch TV that is somebody elses, but they cannot have their picture taken, as they beleive it steals their souls or somethign like that.

I think it's entirely possible that we wagon drivers "haul Amish",as we drive outdated and outmoded forms of transportation. In the eyes of some...About fifteen years ago,a co-worker,who owned an Eagle Talon, asked me,"Why would anybody want a car with wood on it?".(we'd made mention of Jeep Grand Wagoneers)He was convinced that cars are supposed to be made out of glass, plastic and metal.Nothing else. That wood, and even fake wood, had no reason to be anywhere near a car.It just didn't make sense to him.He made it sound heretical...He also said he bought the Talon, because he test drove a T-Bird of the time, and thought it was too big.If Pinto sized T-Birds are too big, imagine what our wagons are,in the eyes of people like that.:49:

This reminds me of this past Friday. Friday it was nice outside so I drove my wagon to school. When I pulled into the parking lot I saw a smart car parked there, so I couldn't resist parking next to it. That whole smart car is about as long as the hood on my wagon. As I was getting out, the kid with the smart car came outside to get something out of his car. He asked me how I can drive a car that big. He said he bought the smart car because he thought that his 2-door civic was too hard to park. I told him that the wagon was easy to drive and that I don't know how he can drive a car that small and feel safe and comfortable. It looked so funny with my big wagon parked next to that little car. We both got some good laughs out of it.
