... it usually is. Too good to be true. Here is a 1990 Mazda RX-7 convertible with only 558 miles on it. 1990 Mazda RX-7 on eBay Even if it were stored during the winter and only driven until the expiry of the last registration on May 16 1993, that would only be about 5 miles a week. Somehow I doubt the seller is the original owner, even if the ad is sneakily worded to imply that he/she is. I don't really believe anyone could just drive this car only one mile after its most recent servicing/resurrection. These are cars with zoom-zoom! You would just have to take it on a 100 mile drive.
Even if it were true, cars are like fruit, they go bad just from sitting. One way to get an idea is to actually look it over. I've found that even when some things don't sound too good to be true, they aren't!
I agree, I'd be like to see a car like this with 25-35k miles on it. Enough mileage to know that it had been used on a regular basis. Although I've seen '93 and '94 RX-7s for sale with only 17k miles on them.
Personally I very much doubt the mileage..... However, there is no way to verify as the seller admits to the CPU being replaced which has that info in it.. And I as well do not really believe this car was only driven one mile after its most recent servicing...
Wouldn't a CARFAX validate the mileage? If the owner ever took it to a dealership the service date and mileage would be tracked. I think the miles are legit.
There are people out there that buy a new car and then never drive it for whatever reason. Several years ago there was a really nice '64 Ford Galaxie, nicely optioned with next to no miles on it. Story was that an older gentleman bought the car new, ordered it the way he wanted. Got the car and didn't like the way it drove, parked it and it sat for over 40 years until he passed and it was subsequently auctioned off. With any car there could be a great story as to why the mileage is so low you just have to ask.
The AutoCheck report on the eBay listing just shows 13 miles on the car when the first title was issued by the DMV on 12/16/1990. Nothing else after that. Seems fishy!
I believe the mileage and have seen several low mileage cars on ebay in the past http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153
I like it! Looks like a nice clean car. Seems to be a believable ad, no alarms went off for me when I read it and I really was expecting it to be a bunch of whoha. I'd take it for groceries...well until my getter is up and running. I think it's cool that you guys find these ads and bring them to everyone so we can debate and analize them, it's all educational. Thanks jim535
Where I do not doubt some low mileage cars this one seems to have more sushi in it than Yokoto's Sushi House... WHY,, would the CPU have to be replaced ?? Carfax will only show what is reported by dealers, listed service centers, insurance companies, etc..
The mileage is possible. Back in 1983, one of our neighbours passed away. When his widow sold the house, she sold of her husband's 2 cars. A 1953 Chev with 8 miles on it, and a 1959 Vauxhall Velox with 12. He bought the cars, had the salesmen drive them home and park them in the garage, and they never moved again!
This happens more than we realize. On the HAMB site a recent Minnesota farm auction had many near mint low mileage cars that sold. One car, a 1940 Ford coupe only made it less than a mile on a trailer when a trailering accident totalled it. Under 1000 miles on it I believe.
Top bid was $11,555, reserve price not met. People tend to over-estimate - waaaay over-estimate - the prices these cars will sell for. $11k is probably as good as it gets for this car.
