Wow, that is interesting. I don't know if it's just the depth of field in the picture messing with me, but how close is that pipe to the tire?

No clearance problems. Even with Corvette wheels and meaty tires. 20211108_112103.jpg

Yes, the Powerstroke has an exhaust tip (single exhaust). Generally speaking I am a big fan of chrome exhaust tips.

The system I had installed has 2 1/4 pipe and "Flow Master" clones. It was SO loud! Plus the drone inside drowned out the radio. Sarge is not the quietest vehicle I own. I still have a ton of little rattles and squeaks. Especially in the tailgate... It was so loud I took it back and after doing my own research installed Walker Quiet Flow mufflers. So much better. The extra $100 was worth 20210929_145036.jpg 20210929_184324.jpg it!!

Nice. For a quieter muffler I have been intrigued by the still relatively new Pypes Turbo Pro, and I'm usually not a turbo muffler kind of guy. It doesn't sound like the typical turbo muffler. It still has a muscular sound, just at much lower volumes. They'd be great for a long-distance cruiser. Glad you found something that works for you!

    Cheers.

In the end that's the only thing that matters. It's your car. YOU are the one who is enjoying it. Can't enjoy a vehicle if the process of driving it is unenjoyable.

Um, whatever I can find at the junkyard that's cheap, not rusted out and I can install under my car.

My favorite muffler was from 20 years ago. The Holley Flowtech 304. Ads called it “the brightest star”. They didn’t make it for long. The next year they were unavailable, so I found a pair of them NIB on eBay and snatched them. Never seen them for sale since. They have a nice throaty sound without being loud like a straight thru design. Solid 304 stainless steel. 2 of them I installed on wagons that have since rusted out, so I saved the mufflers for later, still in excellent condition. Another car I still drive, with the Holley Flowtech 304 muffler and DIY 304 stainless exhaust in excellent shape from 19 years after I installed it.

This is weird........ I can't remember ever having to buy a muffler. Did some tailpipe repair on the Way-Back Machine while I had it, but no new muffler. I credit two things.....

    2. I don't keep cars for a long time, usually.

Right now, Babe's single muffler is rusted out, no tailpipe, and after dialing the engine back to where the timing belongs, it actually is loud, but not too loud, low drone at highway speed. Sometimes, you don't need new to get what you want.

Old thread, but whatever. I put Borla Pro XS mufflers on the T-Bird last year. They were the only 304 muffler I could find that didn't use being overly loud as a selling point. They are a straight through design, but they are relatively quiet and do not drone. Then again I have three cats on the exhaust which helps. I was most interested in the stainless construction since it gets driven year round and I hate doing exhaust work.
