Thanks Fox. I did a bunch of research again today - that means I went for car club breakfast and got the skinny from a couple of the guys who have owned these in the past and done the repair work needed on theirs. They figure we made the right decision to look for another without the rust issue.

Rev, I was surprised at how much the DW liked that little Malibu. She pulled me to the side while CS54 (Lee) was taking a second look at the frame where it appeared rust was disguised, and suggested that she'd be a pretty happy camper-ette to be driving that one. On the way home as we determined it wasn't in the condition the seller thinks it is in, she noted that she'd like me to continue the hunt. Up here it is going to be tough to find one that isn't in need of some rust repair but we shall see. In the meantime she's pretty happy driving the truck. I think it is because women (not all, I don't want to generalize here and be considered a chauvinistic pig ) like to be up nice and high so they can almost see what the curbs they hit :49:, the poles they back in to:banghead3:, and the sense of being in control of who has the right of way at 4 way stop signs:whew:. It's just a guess though........;)

But we may yet come past to have a look. Our company just left yesterday so we have our lives almost back to normal. I'll call you if I can convince her to take a look. Some darn fool (one of the ladies I suspect)taught her a new word (NO) and she's started to test using it. Quite effective. I don't want to give her a lot of opportunity to use it:rofl2:

I'm going to get a buddy back on the prairies to keep an eye out for a Malibu/Lemans wagon and see what is out there for sale. I'm also going to see if my 79 Lemans is still in the little town it went when we sold it. If so it would be really nice to get back. I've got some pics of it I'll find and post.

I sure am disappointed in this other one though. I had high expectations from the pictures and from talking with the owner, the promise of low mileage and limited use in inclement weather which we now realize is probably less than accurate. OH well, on to the next one.

There are 2 '83 G-body Bonneville Safaris for sale right now - just not near you. Both in good condition. Might be worthwhile to check into those and buy/shio. The blue one's only $2,900 and LOADED.....

Its OK Barry, our women wouldn't want us any other way (chauvinists).(y) Chauvin was actually quite a gentleman, and somehow got nailed with the bad rep.

Now that is of great concern. Good thing she said YES to you though. :thumbs2:

    This might help the search:

Wow, I miss a day on the Forum and all kinds of neat stuff comes up.

Tedy - we actually talked about the 'blur on the Island. She is adamant that this car not have any issues - it has to be a nice clean fully functioning zero issues great looking not afraid to use it to go anywhere or embarrassed that it is a work in progress kind of car :slap:. I know, I know, I don't even LOOK at cars like that when I'm looking at advertisements. I'm not sure how to do that. I mean just buy a car and it is done? It already looks good? There's no work to do on it? Why have it? What do you mean you can go somewhere without 273 lbs of tools in the back along with a floor jack, jack stands, cover alls and hand cleaner? What kind of trip is that? How could you have fun? When would you have time to read your novel while hubby is under the car fixing it? You'd never get through that book.

Norman - thank you. Unfortunately she who pays the bills, pays for the cars, and brings home broken vehicles for me to fix that were perfectly good before she drove off in them seems to think that I pick on her, and women in general, over their driving habits. I don't call it driving. I think it is more like aiming but anyway, I'm not allowed to "go there" any more, or else :slap:

Those 83 G bodies sound interesting. Southern Ohio, KK? Shipping is not an issue if a guy finds the right car. There are lots of companies that do it and that doesn't bother me as long as they aren't charging as much as I pay for the car :D. Where did you see them for sale - on line I hope, so I can go check out the adverts.

Thanks guys. Oh yeah, and Rev, my fear is I bring her over and she'll see all those neat cars and then get the idea that I'm getting ideas about doing the same with my back yard - trade the riding mower in for a bunch of cars so I don't have to mow any more.

So this little baby pops up and I like it, a lot. The price is about 4 times higher than I thought it would be, but I really like the car, always did like this style. Showed it to the DW and she got real quiet. I mean real quiet. Next thing I know she's checking my pulse and then my head to see if I have a fever. No sense of humour at all........

Yep, too bad the price is way outta my reach. I love the color, the body style...................turns out the guy has a VEGA business according to his online info.

10 grand? The guy is nuts. Poorly engineered nostalgia isn't worth that much. I remember pricing out a loaded Vega GT wagon back in '74 - everything you could possibly get on it (admittedly not much...) and it topped out around $3,800 IIRC.....

Yeah, I know, I about passed out. At first I thought there was a mistake when putting zeros in but nope.

    Try this Fox, http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/1645560988.html

Anyway, I love the body style and I'm partial to that color, but that is as far as it goes. I just thought it was interesting. I suppose even if it was a tenth of what he's asking and I brought that puppy home my wife would ask me when we were getting a real car. Sigh.

Tuesday is Chevelle day again. We are SO close to having it done. With it done the options for the next car open up, or so I tell myself. Fox is supporting my Safari's for sale habit with his posts. Egads I'd love a '56 and not a project but a nicely done one but I suspect that would get shot down pretty quickly.

KK, thanks for the advert details. I'm on them now to see what I can. Much appreciated.
