My problem is that there are at least 30 wagons I would LOVE to have. I've been looking for nearly 2 years now and still don't have one. Everytime I find one....a different one pops up an then another and then ano...........
I'd like to get my hands on a 2006 or 2007 Magnum SRT8. 370 cu in V8 (6.1L) with 425hp, sport suspension, dual piston caliper Brembo brakes, 20" alloy wheels. 0-60 mph in 5.1 secs with a top speed of 169 mph. I would get in Soooo much trouble with one of those.
Yeah, unfortunately, Chrysler stopped making the Magnums in 2008. They didn't sell well overall compared to the Chrysler 300 & Dodge Charger which are mechanically identical. But that wasn't because people didn't like them .... I've gotten more compliments with my Magnum than any other car I've owned.... It's because most people didn't even know about them! For some foolish reason, Chrysler didn't hardly ever advertise the Magnums in magazines or T.V. commercials. To this day, people still come up to me and ask me what kind of car it is. The Magnums didn't change from 2005-2007, then for 2008, it had a new front fascia and hood (more square styling) and the interior dash and doors were changed. So the 2008 SRT8 Magnum is the rarest of them all. I've seen SRT8 Chargers and 300's while driving around, but I've yet to see an SRT8 Magnum. Chrysler stops making the Magnum and then comes out with the Dodge Journey and keeps making the Dodge Nitro, one bland and the other hideous IMO. Now Cadillac is coming out with a wagon, but I believe the V6 is going to cost as much as the SRT8 did with none of the performance. There may even be a new SRT8 sitting on a dealers lot somewhere.... http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/car/05q3/dodge_magnum_srt8-short_take_road_test
Ford came out with their Freestyle, the closest thing to a Ford wagon in almost ten years, in 2005. Working for a Ford dealer, I always drove one as a demo and then when the store closed last year, I bought an '08 Taurus X, which was the new name for the Freestyle. People still ask me what kind of car it is, can you believe it? I'm guessing Ford thinks it's a small niche market and as such, hasn't marketed the car at all. It's got all the utility of a sport ute but all the comfort and nimbleness of a wagon. They're really missing the boat on this one, I think. If they sold it as a modern, updated station wagon, instead of that silly "crossover" moniker, I know they'd sell alot more of them. They should come on this website and see how many passionate wagon lovers there still are in the world!! And, while I'm on my soapbox, I truly feel they copped out by calling it the Freestyle and Taurus X. What would have been wrong with calling it the Taurus wagon? Heaven knows they were incredibly popular back in the 80's and 90's.
Are they still making the Taurus X now that they have the Flex? (How many vehicles is Ford going to try to make that begin with the letter "F"?) I like the style of the Flex myself, especially with the white roof. Kinda has a retro surfer wagon look to it. I think the popularity of wagons declined in the U.S. when Minivans such as the Plymouth Voyager (I owned one) came out. They were cool at first, but then they became thought of as Soccer-mom-mobiles. Then the SUV fad came about somehow. I think wagons would gain momentum again if only more car companies would sell them. It's ironic that the American car makers were reluctant to make wagons in recent years, but Volvo, Audi & Volkswagen wagons seem to sell well here.
I already have my dream wagons. I only need the lotto, to do the drive train. the 1984 LTD would get something like; all new jack roush built EFI 327 SBF with TURBO/ HD T-5 tranny and 1999 to 2004 cobra independent 8.8. redone painted on wood grain . the 1982 zephyr would get something like; blown 454W nascar cleveland engine/6speed tranny/ 9 inch rear plus a near stock woody style paint job
I put some thought to this and I came up with what I already have, just redone a whole bunch better than I've done. Yeah, it is a constant work in progress and it would be nice to have it all spanking shiny and new'ish, but dang, it sure is fun the way it is. There really isn't another that I can think of I'd rather have. There are others I'd like to ALSO have, but even there, they tend towards pretty much every danged wagon I've seen - they all have their own unique qualities that make them look like they'd be fun to own. I can't think of any that I wouldn't want, even just for a tiny bit of time. Well, okay, there's a couple, but I'm not mentioning them and getting tar'd and feathered.
well money not being considered, then for this AMC guy I would like to own a 58 Buick Cabelero or 59 Buick 4 dr HT or even the 60 4 dr HT wagon, thats big,, roomy, roadworthy, enough power and uses alot of gas.( I buy petro saved from hybrd & AC.DC cars)
The real chalenge is to chose ONE car and only one. My car's choice for daily use, for pleasure use, for rallying, to go on hollidays with kids, with bikes and with plenty of luggages, to go at the opera with my Lady, to visit my clients, to bring my dogs to the muddy park, to load material when I'm working at my house, my car if I should only have one would be one of mine (but fully restored and fitted with a modern gearbox). It would not be my all times favourite but the more versatile. It would be this one. ... but I hope I'll never have to make such a choice
