Cottage Grove is only 23 miles down the road from me, and I have to go there tomorrow. I'll look for the motel and grab a pic if I can.......

 

Well, this musta been an interesting service.

 

Younguns............Before supermarkets and WalMart Brothers, we had neighborhood groceries like this one. I remember the one in Sturgeon Bay, WI we went to when I visited my grandparents up there. It was neat because the proprietor and other folks knew my grandma by name and were real friendly. They had a butcher counter for meats, fresh vegetables, dairy items and most anything else you needed.

 

Is that an early model Opel wagon down at the far end??

 

Notice the signs for the Western Air Lines ticket office. They merged with Delta Air Lines in 1987 which helped Delta transform from a regional carrier to a true national airline. Today, by many measures, they are the world's largest airline. My father worked for them in Air Cargo marketing from 1967 to 1992.

 

Yup. Opel Rekord I believe.....

 

Not completely sure, but I believe my first airplane flight was on Western Airlines - LA to SF in 1969.

 

There's just something about this picture that grabs my eye

 

I had a 54 Ford like the one on the left and a 57 Chevy like the one behind it. But never owned a beat up brown and white Safari wagon like that toward the right middle.
Bought a lot of Gulf gas too.

Rainbow Motel, now the 'Relax Inn.
Some research indicates that the Rainbow Motel was used as a shooting location for the movie 'Animal House', which was filmed entirely in the Eugene, Oregon area

Today, known as the 'Relax Inn' And of course, instead of station wagons, we have minivans....
