This circa 1958 image of rush hour traffic was taken in downtown Charleston, VW. The press photographer shot the image at the corner of Hale St, looking across Lee St at a storefront on the left and the Bell Telephone building on the far-right.

    In an alternate reality......

"Well, since the economy crashed, we had to trade in the Presidential limo for a rusty Ford wagon, and Air Force 1 is about to be sold to Southwest Airlines......."

The front end of that Ford looks a bit crinkley. A few bumps here and there. Even the hubcaps look mismatched.

Well, considering the times back then, like what the nose of the 707 says:

    "THE SPIRIT OF '76"

our spirits were still pretty much down in the dumps, like the poor guv'mint wagon there.

Well if that was 1976 that Ford was a five year old car. So probably got knocked around a bit.

Yup, back then, the taxpayer got their money's worth out of vehicles before scrapping or auctioning.

Goes to show you 1976 was really not the year for Ford
