As ' Cruiser' has probably noticed by now, we're real big on :nohijacking:around here......

Looking at the window sticker on Jaunty's CC, you can tell a lot about the owner.....

    - Vehicle probably had 2 drivers (ordered a power seat)
    - Owner not too concerned with 'frills' - no power windows
    - Owner not into music (AM radio only)
    - Owner concerned with engine longevity (ordered engine heater / HD cooling)

I don't know that I see it as hijacking. The OP came on here to say that he was looking for a clamshell-era Custom Cruiser. Since then, we've been talking about clamshell-era Custom Cruisers. I don't quite see how that's hijacking anything. :)

Jaunty, the story and the artifacts about your CC are treasures. In fact, I was up into the wee hours reading your rebuild thread last night. The history on the car is interesting. I like that there's a story that goes with her. Safe journey to the Pittsburgh convention. Post pics if you get the chance.

Actually, I think his concern was more with trailer towing as he also ordered air-adjustable shock absorbers (the "super-lift rear shock absorbers" on the sticker) and the anti-spin differential along with the heavy duty cooling system. That combination of options was recommended by Olds for those planning to tow trailers.

The air shocks are still there, but after 38 years and 104,000 miles, they no longer hold air. They still seem to work fine as regular shock absorbers as the car sits level and takes the bumps on the road with aplomb, but they can't be pumped up.

The engine block heater is nowhere to be found now. I'm not sure what that even would have looked like. Not that it was very expensive at $10, but I actually wonder why he would have gotten that as I always that you didn't really need something like that unless you routinely faced very cold (sub-zero) mornings in the winter time, such as I'm always hearing about in the Canadian plains where people talk about waking up to 30 and 40 below zero temperatures (degrees F). But he lived in Charleston, West Virginia. It certainly snows there, but it experiences nothing like that kind of cold. Plus, he garaged the car. It wasn't a heated garage, but, still, it wasn't parked outside.

Otherwise, yes, the car is very low on the option count. The only thing on it above the basics is the power seat as you point out. No power anything else (locks or windows), no tilt wheel, no cruise control, basic radio. I think he was looking to get into a big Olds wagon as inexpensively as possible.

Thanks. I'll like telling it as I think it's rare for a car to have that much documentation. The story with my other old car, the '67 Delta 88, is the complete opposite. I barely know where that car was yesterday. (Actually, I know a tiny bit more than that, but that's another story.)

I will take lots of photos at the station wagon show.
