Welcome Aspen. I used to sell those Volare wagons years ago at Hart Fullerton Chrysler Plymouth which was on West Olympic Blvd. It closed in 1979 and then I headed back East. Krash, if I'm not mistaken, ThatMoparGuy sold his gorgeous Lebaron to another member of our forum. Thanks, Dan, for the pics of the Spring Fling. It looks like there was a whole lot of cool cars there. Even a few wagons, YEA!!
Snooterbuckets. If you were selling at Hart in the early '70s, You saw the Batwagon when it waz factory Biege Hart waz still using door stickers for service records in those dayz. I found the Beast in '86 in a back yard 3 miles from Disney Land where it had languished for 13 yearsAnd the door edge and jamb were loaded with Hart service stickers! That waz a Sunday LATimes find. B/E = Before Ebay
How about that, Big Barn! I worked there in '78/79 so I guess the Bat Wagon wasn't being serviced there by then. We did service Lee Marvin's Imperial, which was about 5 or 6 years old. One day I approached him and told him he was long overdue for a new car. In that big sonorous voice of his, he replied, "Young man, don't you read the newspapers?". "Oops, sorry about that", I sheepishly said. Those of you old enough might remember that was when he was in the midst of the first "palimony" suit in the US. His live in girlfriend was suing him for almost everything after he had broken up with her and kicked her out of his house. Obviously, it would not have been a good time for him to get a brand new New Yorker!
Wow...coincidences. Back when I was a teenager, I used to cruise the car dealers in the early fall looking for next year's models before they were in the showroom. Hart Fullerton was one of my stops, along with the Chevy dealer across the street (forget the name). This was all before I could drive. used my bicycle to get around. Think I had some work done at Hart Fullerton on my '65 Dart, too. Very nice pics, Dan. I never knew of the Spring Fling when I was in SoCal.
Wow, it really is a small world, Krash. I used to do the same thing back in the 60's, ride my bike over to Westfield, which was the next town over, early every September in the hopes of seeing the new models. Never will forget when I saw a Mustang for the first time. I was going over there everyday in the hopes I'd finally see one and sure enough, one afternoon I got there and on the car carrier was the coolest car I'd ever seen in my life, a white 64 1/2 Mustang. They hadn't even taken it off the truck yet, so I climbed up on the trailer and was flipping out how futuristic this new car looked. I remember it reminded me of a rocket, it was so sleek and hot looking. I guess I was about 11 or 12 but I still remember it as if it was yesterday.
Yeah - I remember the Mustang coming out too. I would have been 12 at the time, and I remember my dad being vaguely interested in the Mustang from all the media coverage on it, and he wasn't really a 'car guy'. I think he even took me down to the local Ford dealer in Venice on Lincoln Bl. to look at it. Don't know if it was then or later, but I got a promo model, too (long gone, darn it).
Stang's? O.K. you 2 kidz. The Dealer Grand Showing fur them Stang's took place on April 17th of '64. I ordered one 5 days later on my wifes birthday as her graduation prez from college that up coming June. Kinda hard to forget that date. It only too 'til the 7th of July to get the call that the Stang waz in. On the 2nd of July I contacted the local Studebaker-Benz Dealer to assertane availability of any unsold '64 Avanti's. 2 remained unsold in the whole country at that time and I started the paper work to have the white R2 shipped from Denver to Ann Arbor,Mi. Had it not been for the 4th of July weekend thrown into the mix, We'd ah been drivin' a plastic car for the next 2 years instead of the Stang, Cute little palamino 260 Coupe that it waz:banghead3:AAARRRGGGHHHH
