You've heard that 1950's song about the Nash Metropolitan and the Lincoln, right? That's a virtual image you never forget. I think it was the Four Lads that did it. The guy was chasing the Lincoln at 120 MPH, with the window down, trying to ask him if he knew how to get the Nash out of second gear!

    those 409's

If I remember right,Dennis Gage of My Classic Car did a sequence of the show about the fabled 409 engine---made famous in Chevys.Apparently, they were an optional powerplant in Buicks,a year before they were available in Chevys.I know Chevys could come with 327's.I've seen Pontiacs that said 325 on their sides, and Oldsmobile aircleaner covers that said 326.Depending on brand I've seen 453's,455's and 456's as well as the famed 454...I've figured, each brand put together their own version of certain engines.

I hate to be the "Corrector Guy" Normie, but the song was by the Playmates, and was called "Beep Beep" The car was a Nash Rambler vs a Cadillac.

Here's the lyrics if you're interested!

Metropolitans/Ramblers---Lincolns/Cadillacs...They're all the same, aren't they?;) I once had a tow truck driver tell me my Colony Park wasn't a Mercury. He didn't say what he thought it was instead:confused:...A younger co-worker and I were looking at two mid-60's Mustangs in a parking lot,and he said they looked okay---but they were a bit big. Then he drove home in a Nissan Maxima that was pretty much the same size as the Mustangs:confused:.When my wife and I first met,she drove her mom's VW Fox over to my house.A distance of three and a half blocks,in only reverse, first and second gears---because she couldn't figure out how to get it to go to third gear:oops:.So,there was probably some truth to that song:yup:,although,I can't imagine a Rambler going much faster than 35 mph in second gear.:49: But it IS the punchline to the joke:yup:so that's okay.

Nope, I'm a HUGE oldies fan. People laugh because a song will come on and I will be like "This is so and so from such a year" and if I'm really on a roll, I can tell them what it charted and in what studio it was recorded.

I think you mixed up the song with Hot Rod Lincoln by Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, I think is who sings it.

    those little add-ons

I've got tools in my toolbox,I got from local fix-it shops. They didn't give them to me,they left them under my hood or on my front seat.;) The most disturbing one was the Coleman butane welding torch and fuel canister one of them left on the exhaust manifold of my 77 Aspenwagon.:49: And yes, there was plenty of fuel in the canister.I'd driven around with it there, for a day and a half.No Big Ass Ball Of Fire.:whew:

    oldtimey stuff

For a while,in the early 80's,my family had a Ford-Philco television!:49: It was a black and white(you can get your Ford TV in color,if you want,as long as it's black and white);) After a few hours of viewing, the picture tube would fritz, and it would be a Ford-Philco radio that played TV shows.:yup: It came with built-in rabbit ears, though,so that was good.:)
