only way to tell for sure would be to see the front of the pickup. 1980 had square headlights.

The Vette tells the year, look at the roof line from the drivers door back as there is no bubble back window, has that sweeping look. That Vette is a 77.

White Vette is a 77, silver one is a 78

Of course the killer here is I'm looking at these and thinking "OMG, they are over 30 years old and I could have bought them brand new".

It's pretty sad when you realize that all these neat cars were coming out and we were so overwhelmed with making a living and keeping the cars we had mobile that we missed so many neat cars that were available. Particularly when they were in the five to ten years old range and cheap to buy and tuck away.

    Now I won't sleep tonight...

    i dunno ted, 2 things

    1. it looks like the vette has the 78 wheels and the more pronounced front fender vent

    2. if it were a 77 wouldnt the caprices and impalas have the larger leading edge on the hood?

I am pritty firm on 1977, mainly because of the Vette and it's roof line. I had a 77 Impala and it sure looks/ed like that blue one except mine was a lite green, same as our family minister but a different car. From what i have seen it apears those wheels on the Vette were on 77's and 78's....there are several pic on the net in very close angles to the Vette on that truck...I'm firm by the roof line it is a 77 as it's clear it has the fast looking roof line and not the bubble rear window

pics of 77 Impala, 77 Vette, and 78 Vette with same wheels but has spinner caps

    ok, i agree.

i never new that they sent vette's on a normal car carrier. i always figured they were sent enclosed carrier. espescially given the precautions that are taken at the factory...i.e. belt and watch covers for employees so that they dont scratch the paint.

Could it be that this truck was carrying a mix of '77's and '78's, perhaps to shuffle around inventory between dealers? Back in those days, I seem to recall factory-to-dealer deliveries being made on blue car carriers, a GMC or a Chevrolet, that had in the center of its profile a large "GM" emblem. But that was thirty years ago, so my memory might be a bit off, lol.

Beautiful photo... reminds me of my 77 Caprice Coupe (exact same color as the one in the photo, had a line 6 engine, which was a very strong engine)... I still love the rear windows of the coupes
