I had a '56 Chevy and guys would check over my car and say "where the heck do you put gas in this thing?" I wouldn't try to fool anyone at a station, especially a young kid pumping gas, but a Cadillac like the one in this picture once came into my station. He told me how much and didn't say a word. I walked right up to his car, popped the tail light lid and starting pumping the gas and looked at him to see if he was looking in the mirror. I looked back at him like "who are you trying to fool?", lol.
As Paul Harvey would say, "And now you know the rest of the story:" https://thepointsguy.com/news/wwii-bomber-6-million-challenge/
My first apprenticeship after highschool job was at a Standard station down the road. Not at this one, though
Here’s one of two dinosaurs along US 19 near Weeki Wachee. I’ll post about the 2nd dinosaur in the future. This dinosaur is Harold’s Auto Center in this 1987 photo and it still is today. The structure opened in 1964 as a Sinclair gas station . This view is from back when you could fill up your tank – and for a lot less, too!
