From the somewhat scant info I found on the explosion, the Truck driver had arrived early in the morning and parked the truck outside of the Delivery site. Then went and got a room to get some sleep. A short time later the building that he parked the truck beside caught fire. The FD responded and the alarms woke up the truck driver tried to get to the truck to move it, he was delayed for a couple of minutes by the fire department until he explained the situation. He then was allowed to try and move the truck. Just as he got to it, it exploded killing him along with others. It was the incident that caused a review of explosive shipment deliveries. And stricter regulations resulted.
Back to small town Stations, I like this one as it reminds me of the small town country store/gas stations that used to be all over rural America.
Saw the post / pic on the previous page, and come to find out this occurred in Roseburg, Oregon, a good-sized town about 67 miles south of here. Here's what the city has posted about the event in 1959, on their own website: http://www.cityofroseburg.org/visitors/1959-blast/
