What can I say? Anchorage was a bunch of cheap b*stards back then. Nowadays, it would just be driven onto the Alaska Marine Highway ferry boat here in Seattle.

Maybe they added the cab later.

These aren't Vintage Pictures, as they were taken at the 2015 Ypsilanti MI Fire Truck Muster but I thought I would share them.

1st one is a 1938 Seagrave used by the Detriot FD

Powered by a Seagrave twin plug V-12. Plenty of power to get to a fire quickly!

Well Jeff you didn't share them with me!:eek::disagree::huh:

Lucky for me, the only times I've seen firetrucks were at fire stations, car events, or at a fire.
Just once did one come to my parents house for a small fire in the old iron furnace in the living room. No serious damage.................. Hope those are the only places I see firetrucks....and in pictures.

If I ever get back to SoCal, one stop I wish to make is the LA County Fire Museum. They have kept so many old rigs over the decades, and, of course, they have the "Emergency!" rescue squad, Crown Firecoach pumper and Ward LaFrance pumper used n the show.

The 28 Seagraves replaced the Piston pump 1921 Ahrens - Fox Models that were capable of pumping water up 20 plus floors of the new downtown skyscrapers. I was told that the Piston pumps would work the suspension of the Engine beyond its capacities and the entire engine would "dance" when the pump was in use, and in cold weather they would have to tie them to the hydrants to keep them from dancing away from the water source, and break the hoses connecting them to the hydrant. Sounds like fun. They were kept in the reserve fleet until after WWII.

Thanks Jeff. I'd loved to been at that show. Some amazing equipment.
Raised in small town USA, our buildings were mostly only a few stories tall. The biggest and worst fires I remember were when a large brewery burned and nearby another year a corn manufacturing factory had some large fires. None actually tall but spread out.

While you can't really make out any detail this shot of a fire in the Packard Assembly Plant in 1959 I found striking, The Fireman visible on the ladder in the spotlights.
