I also think they hit the dealerships up for Convertibles for their various parades. Maybe that was a good p r move, especially in those communities where the high school was a dominant force in sports and or other achievements. I’m also sure too that if a Convertible, or lot car they posed with got any type of damage I’m sure the dealer probably did some sort of “charge back” to the factory for “shipment damage” I Liked your comment Krash about the dents. I just wouldn’t have allowed a gaggle of kids to hop all over my inventory. I guess I tend to like the cars more than the kids.
Sorry for the slow response. In '61 you can tell what engine was in the Impala (or any full size Chevy) by the Front Emblem. A 6 Cylinder (235 Cu In) car will just have the Chevrolet emblem. A 283 car will have the same emblem but will have a Gold Vee under it. A 348 (or 409 even though they only made 142 of them in '61) will have Crossed Flags on it.
