I have used those springs in Mopar distributors. Then, I started buying the Mopar Performance kit, with a dist. already set up. One other thing I do is use Moroso Blue Max plug wires. They are great. You get radio supression and full fire to the plugs. Summit has a house brand that is about the same. I bought a set of those for my pickup, and so far so good.
Norman another trick us Ford people use to get the timing back to the 60's spec is get a timing gear and chain for the same engine from the 60's. For example I plan on putting a timing gear in my 1974 390 from a mid 60's 428 it's the same block so it fits like factory and resets my timing. Along with timing springs or you can take this option for your I6.Click on the street dist and all the applications they have pop up which yours is a 200 at the bottom of the yellow box. http://www.performancedistributors.com/forddui.htm
Yeah, I know about that. Nice setup. I'll start with the Curve kit. No engine goodies this year or next. The house gets the resto-meister this turn.
I think it was in '72 that Ford changed their valve timing. I had a '73 Mercury with a 429 that fell on it's face. I replaced the timing set with a '71 set and added a pair of '69 429 heads, and the old Merc would smoke the rear tires. It also about doubled the gas mileage.
Ages ago when I had a tuneable engine I too always pushed the limit on ignition advance. Usually ~40* total but that was with a cam that had lots of overlap and 1500 cfm of carburetion and Av gas so detonation wasn't a problem. T-chain stretch will manifest itself more as timing variation than effecting the initial setting. In that little six more is probably better for performance provided you are vigilant for detonation. I've never owned a 200 six but imagine it needs all the help you can give it. In my youth I drove a Ford delivery van with the 300. The throttle was merely an on off switch, it seemed to make no difference if it was light throttle or to the wood, it accelerated the same. I typically deferred then to the later setting.
Oooh! Those Aussies were spoiled! Is it a Torino, a Cougar, no matter it's pretty! http://www.aussiecoupes.net/ Looks more like a souped up Maverick with Torino/Stang styling. Eat your heart out Stefan. This is what Maverick guys die for! More pics: http://www.aussiecoupes.net/betamemberscars.html
