been on the hunt for a woodie LTD for 2 years to have as my daily driver. Just bought one yesterday and am externally excited. 1987 LTD Country Squire. Only needed improvement to make the wagon perfect is to re wrap the trim pieces that surround the side panels. All the plastics trim is in great shape, but the vinyl wrap is peeling.
Welcome tod! Sounds great. But I need some pictures to get a better visual. Sounds like your a patient man who knows what he wants glad you found a good one! There are plenty of threads about redoing the vinyl wood grain. I love it when I’m pumping gas and someone tries to explain to me the simple process sanding and refinishing old wood.
Know wonder you're excited! That was worth waiting 2 years for. Congratulations! With out without a wagon YOU are a worthy member. aboard.
Welcome to the forum Todd! Very nice wagon, I am totally partial to the 80's box wagons, red interior. my 85 Colony Park s and wood grain. Had an 82 Ford wagon - Black with red interior as far as being worthy - heck the forum has let me stay around for almost 4 years now, and haven't banned my IP address yet - again welcome - stay engaged and let us know how the journey unfolds.
Welcome to the forum, Tod. I really like your '87 Country Squire. Personally, I think '87 is the best year for these 'Panther platform' Ford and Mercury wagons. They got a styling revision to the front end in '88 that I don't really like, and a new dash in '89 that apparently comes with some down-grading of the sound system. Marshall
Question for the group. Anyone have experience removing the light wood trim pieces on a late 80s country squire? I want to repaint them but cannot find anywhere online if I need to purchase special tools or need to take off from the inside. Thank you!
Check out the Cosmetic and Restoration forum. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/forums/cosmetic-restoration.9/ There is a sub-forum dedicated to wood grain. There's bound to be a thread in there detailing the removal of trim pieces similar to what you have.
