Are you sure that the 144 was available in wagons?
When the Comet first appeared, there were neither Comet wagons nor 170 sixes. I would think, a 144 would be too weak for a loaded wagon

Just checked my brochure sources again. The 144 was offered across the board, on all models of Falcon and Comet, from '60 through '63. The optional 170 came on-line either for the '61 model year, or maybe halfway through the '60 model year. Not sure on that though. 3=speed column shift manual was standard on both engines, with the 2-speed Fordomatic optional. There was no limiting of the 144 as to body style. In' '63, the 260 V8 came on-line, available with the 3 speed manual, the automatic, and a 4-on-the-floor manual. You could also order the 4-speed manual with the 170.

Not sure you are aware on this point: The Comet wagon was basically a Falcon wagon with different trim. Not so of the other Comet body styles though. The OTHER Comets had a 4.5" wheelbase stretch behind the front seat, versus the Falcon. In the sedans, you'll notice the Comets had different roofs than the Falcon.
