The roundabouts are a sign of the times. Why stop 20 seconds at a light and take the time to notice your surroundings or much less what street your on, when you can just keep staring at the gps on yer phone with your head phones on and take selfies of your self rear ending a garbage truck?? It's like the guys who would rather spend 20 minutes taking "shortcuts" and back tracking and drive all over creation than just sit in traffic for 15 minutes. Now I'm all fired up.
I noticed the last few commercials had an alligator. I miss the real geccos we had all over down in Floriduuu. I still haven't seen a round about here where we live. I'm sure the big city to the north-west has them. It's the in thing even if they don't work! The strange thing on the interstate bypasses many of the cloverleafs still force traffic to make a left across multiple lanes of traffic.
Cloverleafs went over like a fart in a church, and all it takes to screw the pooch is just one car to not speed up to merge, even if there's no damned traffic!
My thoughts. When entering an interstate off an ON RAMP you are supposed to be going fast enough to merge without slowing down traffic or interfering with traffic. Also according to law you signal left when entering traffic. Of course most modern on ramps are not long enough and are curved so there is no way to be going 60 to 70 MPH when entering the highway. Most drivers do NOT merge, they blindly pull right into the line of traffic so if you rear end them you did not have your car under control and it's all your fault. Still you are not supposed to creep into traffic or stop on the highway waiting for an opening. Other no no's are no talking or texting on cell phones, no nude selfies, no putting on make up, no drinking hot coffee or cold alcohol, no sex, no reading, no TV or other personal hand held devices, and more. Obviously staring at a GPS is legal or most people wouldn't find the on ramp anyway. The little experience I've had on round abouts is traffic only moves at the speed of city traffic, 20-35 MPH. I don't use my signal lights then because I am only merging off one lane onto the one ahead. I'm sure legally I should signal but only turning a short distance may not self cancel the blinker then I'd look like most Florida drivers as I travel another 50 miles down the highway blinking. In a round about way round abouts have been in America forever. Many small towns have the town square with the courthouse or other government building in the middle of the intersection. Those never did seem to be a problem. Maybe because they are square corners and not roundy! Just my two cents.
