Beautiful setup! If you are ever in Canon City Co, there is an awesome campground with restored campers that you can stay in. Right down the road from the Royal Gorge! http://royalgorgebridge.com/?gclid=CMDekNXr0s4CFYGCaQodqx0DJg http://www.starliteclassiccampground.com
Thanks, We are planning a western tour in 2017 or 18. I'll put that on my list. We want to pick up the old route 66 in Tulsa OK and follow it west. would like to find interesting areas and camp for a few days or a week to tour the interesting sites. We,ve been to two TCT vintage rallies in Michigan this year and one ralley sponsored by the Indiana state parts at the Dunes state park on Lake Michigan. A great time, lots of vintage campers and several cool old station wagons.
Well, The trailer and tow rig I own belonged to my grandparent's. They pulled a small camping trailer with the Fury for a few years, but as the family grew Grandpa decided to get a "Bigger" trailer, and also decided he needed a pickup with a camper on it to handle everyone. The trailer is a 1969 Aristocrat Lo-Liner. My Grandparents camped in it for years. When I was growing up this was the trailer they camped in. I have lots of memories in this trailer. My brothers and I bought it from them about 10 years ago. The truck is a 1969 F-100. Also owned by my grandparents up until a few years ago when I purchased it from them. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/threads/my-grandfathers-pick-up.29246/ So, this is the setup I have. The same setup that's been all over the Northwest, camping for the last 47 years. A couple of photos of Grandpa and Grandma camping in 1971 *picture of a picture... sorry, quality is crummy. The Fury still has the trailer brakes, and extra leaf springs, but the hitch was removed when Grandpa bought the truck. So, now it just pretends to pull the trailer. So, there you have it. My tow rig(s) and trailer.
Great story and wonderful provenance. The truck and camper seem to flow together. We attended our first, (three), vintage camper ralleys this summer and I don't remember having so much fun. Just stopping for gas is an event with the Fury and camper. Folks gather around, take pictures and get all nostalgic. We love it. We are planning to attend a couple of TCT ralleys in Florida this winter, as well as a few car shows and cruises. I got our Concord from the original owner and could tell it was hard for him to let go of it. Thanks for posting the pictures and link to your previous posts. I enjoyed reading it.
Back when I pulled our 19' or 21' Concord with the Torino wagon and later a 1975 Ford 1/2 ton supercab truck I had a tranny oil cooler but no sway bars or equalizer hitch. A used refrigerator condensor was my cooler in many tow vehicles. That was my first real RV trailer and sway hitches were not well known where we lived. Both vehicles were terrible over 50 MPH. So I bought a 5th wheel RV and a one ton rated Ford supercab. Still dream of a small Airstream behind my 1948 Chevy panel truck.
That's why my username is 'Silvertwinkiehobo;' my dream is an Airstream or Silver Streak trailer. Seems like my dream is getting away from me, though. I was going to make my former Bronco the rig, and after my heart went bad and I had to quit working, I had to sell all the stuff I bought for the conversion from a 1/2 ton 4X4 to a 3/4 ton 4X2, along with the replacement engine, because I was waiting for Social Security to decide if I'd get SSI or not.
Now THAT is a beauty. I love the patina, and the wood screen door. Your right ..... You need a vintage vehicle, (preferably a wagon), to tote that with. Thanks for posting. OH ..... I like the welcome "mat".
