Caleb and I went to lunch today and we got Grandpa's permission to drive the 59. I asked where he wanted to go and he said the Retro McDonalds. So, we took the 50's car to the 50's themed Micky D's.
That's it. Wave a car in front of those miserable burger flippers of which they will never be able to afford. I hope, you examined your burgers carefully, to see if anything funny was deposited in between
On Saturday morning the Boys and I went on a road trip with Grandpa in the Fairlane. We started out in Selah and went up through the Yakima river canyon to Ellensburg. Then we took the old two lane up to Roslyn. The weather was fantastic. It was the perfect day for a ride in a classic convertible. We stopped for lunch at the Twin Pines Drive In in Cle Elum. http://www.twinpinesdrivein.com/ All in all it was a great day.
Great adventures! I get the feeling that the old gal (the '59) had been feeling bad, and out of sorts, and since her make-over, she's feeling 40 years younger......
The chrome rocker trim was on back order and we ended up waiting for months for it to arrive. At one point we were even told it had been discontinued. But, fortunately it hadn't been and last week it arrived in a big shipping tube. I made arrangements to have the shop that does most of our paint and body work install them. Their shop is only about three blocks away and it was a nice morning, so I drove the Fairlane over with the top down and the shipping tube sticking out over the windshield.
Well, today must be Fairlane day, because the radio just showed up this afternoon. I was told it wouldn't be here until the first week of November, so this is a pleasant surprise. We're going to replace the black 1980's Radio Shack special... With this: It has AM/FM, Bluetooth, MP3, etc, etc, etc. I'm mostly concerned with the fact that it looks right and will finally finish up the interior.
And we got the new radio installed. As you can see, the butchery we have found on every other aspect of this car also made it to the dash as well. To be honest, at this point, it doesn't surprise me at all. So much of this car was held together with bubble gum and bailing wire. At least the old timer kept the car on the road when he owned it, so I guess that's what matters. New head unit looks good and thankfully everything went in as it was supposed to. We discovered the speaker was blown (of course ) so we had to get a new one. We discovered that no one around sells just one 6X9 speaker. They only come in pairs (of course ) so I picked a couple up this afternoon. Should be all back together by the end of the day.
