Cash remember to have some cash with you. That was probably the biggest lesson we all learned. With the power out in some areas for over a few weeks, when Juan went through. Plastic just doesn't work.
    Good Luck. :)

CASH -That is so true. One time we stopped at the local Taco ding dong Bell when the power was off. They didn't know how to take an order, order it, or take money. And most businesses won't even open their doors if the electricity is off. Remember, fuel pumps have electric pumps.
Those credit/Debit things are computer controled too. Best thing is to stock up on basics and learn how to eat from cans.
I'm sure this hurricane and the drought in the midwest will raise fuel even more. No matter how gentle the winds may blow.
China will help us. They own most of America anyway.

Will do. I appreciate it. Know it is kinda funny but I have both my kids sleeping on the floor in my wife and my bedroom. I always have for hurricanes. They were not happy about it but I just like them close where if anything goes wrong I don't need to run thru the house looking for them.

My dad overbuilds everything and our garage has 8x8 timbers and steel beams he gathered off of jobs so that is our shelter if it ever gets too bad. I think this one won't be so bad, we have rode worse out but after hurricane Katrina I started looking at them a little diffrent. That was the only storm I can ever remember evacuating for, but that was one of those ones you don't see very often luckily!

My wife's grandmother lives just south of Houston near the town of Port Lavaca. Her home is right on Alamo Beach, her back yard falls into Lavaca Bay there.

Every hurricane season the family prepares to go get her if needed. Her husband, my wife's grandfather, ran a gas station in Victoria Texas and also had a salvage/dredging business on the side. Well he built that house on Alamo Beach with salvage materials he found through his business. It was supposed to be a vacation cottage, but when they retired, they moved down there for good.

The house is crazy, you can totally tell it's homemade. Every room is a pre-built box and they were all placed together to make a house. The master bedroom and single bathroom stick off the sides of it, and the floors are on different levels because he built them with different sizes of wood and different materials.

Every summer we expect the place to get blown away, but it's been there since the 1960's....amazing. Her grandfather died 12 years ago and her grandmother refuses to move to town.

So that was a long-winded way of saying whenever there is weather in the gulf, we stay glued to the weather channel. Stay Safe all!

    -Mike

___Good luck Al Bundy---and Good luck tireman. We are in the clear here. Very little rain or hardly a breeze. Hope it turns out that way for you.
I did save the beer in case. We hope to drink it to celebrate your safety!

So far so good. Luckily it hasn't really got any stronger and it is just moving very slow...Think it is just a slow moving thunderstorm with a little wind at this point. Not complaining as I stated in 1st post hope this is just a practice drill.

UPDATE: So far so good still. 5 AM we still have electricity, heavy rain and about 60mph winds . May have a tree down but can't tell for sure until daybreak. Just slow moving, probably have another day of winds and rain but everything good and safe here so far.

Watching the news this morning and it looks pretty rough. Hope you guys are still ok. The weather people love to make a big deal over all these storms. It still cracks me up that they put reporters in the rain and wind and as close to the surf as possible. Idiots...sells soap I guess...
