This is Heidi. She passed away about a year ago. She was queen of the house. This is our bitsa Skipper. She has shared our house for about 11 years. She was advertised on Kijiji free. She was about 4-5 months old and had never been inside a house before. She was a bit uncomfortable at first about coming into the house but adjusted quickly. And this is our foundling Eve. She was about 7 weeks old when we found her curled up in the ditch near our house Oct. 30th. Halloween Eve. She has been with us about 9 years.
Our first cat was all black. He came from the Humane Society and is about 9 now. The rescues here won’t adopt out black cats anytime near halloween. He’s our daughters cat and lives in Springfield with little Cali from our last herd.
And Furguson is located within the Bible Belt still. If it has gotten that decadent even there, adopting black cats in places like California shouldn't be allowed during the entire year round
We’re also in the center of puppy mill country. We see rescues going in and taking hundreds at a time.
Love the photos! Looks like your pets get along nicely. My boy Baxter tends to bully the two calico sisters. He wants to be the Alpha cat, even though he was last to come into the household. Luckily it is mostly posturing and not real fights where any cat gets injured.
We have our issues too. Those two and the dog belong to my daughter away at college. Our flock Arlo and Mila is a challenge. Two herding dogs after having two hunters. Tony, Crush and Gray Cat are just now getting along. (Tony being the feral newcomer). Mila (the new pup) is still being trained in etiquette by the cats. Everyone loves Arlo… This thread is great but kinda Bittersweet. Thanks for letting it run!
I wonder why that is? We think our Eve was dropped off. We were the last house on the street. The night before we found her there was a wind and rain storm. I thought I heard a kitten meowing when I came home from work but decided it was probably just trees rubbing in the wind. But the next evening the weather was much better. After returning from Skipper's walk I was sure it was a kitten crying again. After a short search I found her in the ditch curled up next the the light post. To think she spent the night before out there in the rain and wind...
Thank you, funny thing. When I first brought her to the house to show hubby what I found, he told me to but IT back. I wasn't about to do that. I set out to find an owner. I checked with all the neighbours with no luck. Then decided to call these folks who had posters around town looking for their missing cat. These posters had been up for some time and I thought they might be ready for a kitten. When I told hubby about this idea, he thought perhaps we should just keep her and of course we did. Hubby isn't as tough as he likes to let on...
