I'll bring my camera to work tommorow and snap some pics cause today was a very luckey day at work.

The shop floor started developing a sink hole in a magor forklift traffic erea and a 10'x10' erea was coming out this morning to replace. knowing the building and knowing undergorund electrical conduit ran under the erea to be cut out we looked at the building plans and yup, there is the conduit as we though and yup, it's supposed to be 12 inches underground from the 5 inch slab of concrete so no problem, rite?

Rent a big electric concrete saw and myself and another guy start a cutting and just get soaked with water flying every where. Now it's jack hammer time.....thank god for big young guys:p. And then the bobcat comes in.

Well, the conduit was run ONTOP of the ground and NOT as the building plans said they should be. The concrete was only 4 inchs thick over the electrical as the Bobcat discovered. Not only did the jack hammer do some serious damage but before that myself and another guy cutting, cut into the conduit not just once but 4 times in total!

Some one up there sure likes us all for some reason as with all the BS we never cut into or punctured a electrical line, if we had it would have been....

However though, tommorow the shop is dead in the water as electritions are coming in, all the power to the shop has to be disconected, all wires must be pulled out and new conduit intalled etc, etc, etc.

WE did everything by the books, it's a commertial building so we had the plans and even the building code at the time of construction (1980) stated the electrical lines needed to be a minimum of 12 inches below soil under a slab.

It's a good day to come home a B**** about my problems.....

    What problems?, It's cold out, it's raining, it's a great day IMO!:drink:...yup, I bout some beer!:pub:

Yes, yes we do but clearly in our 1980 buildings costruction they were not followed.......??????WTF???? Happens here, happens USA, happens in...... just about everywhere where these guidlines should be followed and inforced. Sadly why things like this fall throgh the cracks......just a IMO, $$$$$$$$$$$, some one does'nt have it to do the job rite, but has enouph $ to make it seem rite on paper. Reality, it happenas all the time in both our countries for generations and still to this day............

......never enouph $ to do the job rite, yet there allways seems to be enouph $ to fix the problem.....but lets roll the dice and see if the problem happens years from now. And in this case it did, since 1980. My kid is now 24 and I've lived a life, the other young guy with me has 2 kids and a thrid on the way, the third guy just starting life and engaged....I die, my family will move on alot faster than...

This kind of crap has been happening for years in both our countries and it's a blunt fact, and people get hurt and even die doing what should be a straight upfront job. Why?..because we go to work given documented info that has been falsified....because some one AND I"LL SAY IT, got a pay out/kick back $ to say what is'nt so. ND that happens in the USA, Canada, Great Britan....at least in CHINA you know you got a 99% chance of dying before you even get to work.

Well said, Tedy. I wonder if there is a commercial building that exists anywhere that each and every single code was done to perfection? I seriously doubt it. I was thinking that moto's question was rhetorical.
You were lucky that you, or no one else, weren't lit up with that code violation!

I work in a fairly new building (3 years old) and have seen a few pretty serious violations mostly electrical, not to mention a massive steel roof that creeks and pops every time a door is opened. It makes me wonder like Tedy if the building inspector was simply paid off or just wanted to get off early. I don't think it's normal for a roof to do that? It sounds like it's about to fall in at times when the sun starts to warm it up...hmmm weird.

    Creaking Roof

Hey dewey, welcome to our house. We live in a doublewide moble home with an addition on front and back, plus a brezeway connecting the garage about 12 feet away. A few years ago we had a metal roof over added. This is common on moble homes and home constructuion, old and new, down here. Roofing shingles don't like sun.
Somewhere near the back west corner, possibly where a gable and the breezeway connect the metal pops and crackles all day long. To me, that means something is shrinking and swelling. Seems like a good place for screws to screw up, or out!
Anytime we go outside we don't hear it. Glad it doesn't do this when I'm getting my beauty sleep!
At least our roof won't cave in but may fly off. Maybe this is normal for metal roofs.
